Browsing Problem
...g samba 3.4.7 as a domain controller. Browsing network works fine, but sometimes ( about one week ), my PC can't browse more my Domain (no workstation saw). If I restart samba, all works again. I have read the samba doc on browsing http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/NetworkBrowsing.html My configuration seems ok, local master yes, preferred master yes, domain master yes, and an os level to 99. My samba has Wins support and my dhcp give him to workstations. Here is some command line that i have done to debug : nmblookup MYDOMAIN net lookup HOST net lookup master MYDOMAIN...

Netbios over more then one protocol
Hi, i'm reading: samba-3.0.20a/docs/htmldocs/Samba3-HOWTO/NetworkBrowsing.html#id2564441 ... The election process is /fought out, so to speak/ over every NetBIOS network interface. In the case of a Windows 9x/Me machine that has both TCP/IP and IPX installed and has NetBIOS enabled over both protocols, the election will be decided over both protocols. As often happens,...

WINS Server: Use Samba or Windows?
Hi, The Samba documentation recommends that a Windows WINS server is used for WinNT/200x clients, i.e. http://samba.mirror.ac.uk/samba/docs/man/howto/NetworkBrowsing.html#id2531484 says "In a mixed NT/200x server and Samba environment on a Wide Area Network, it is recommended that you use the Microsoft WINS server capabilities." But there's no justification as to why Samba isn't recommended in this scenario; the only missing feature I can see...

Joining domain across subnet
Hi All, If I have domain controller on a different subnet than the samba server and I would like to join that domain controller in an environment without WINS, meaning only DNS available. Unfortunately, it failed. Is it possible to do it? I am using domain type DOMAIN (not ADS) in smb.conf and the command I used is: "net join -Uname%passwd" I looked at the -d 10 log info and

Slow printing between subnets
Hi everyone I am currently experiencing a number of win xp pro users experiencing slow printing when access a CUPS/Samba server across 2 subnets. I have noticed that prior to requesting prints, the printers are in a not ready state. When a request is made it takes around 2 minutes before the print is processed. The pc also hangs RHEL V4 cups-1.1.22-0.rc1.9 samba-3.0.10-1.4E For a pc on that

WINS server issues
I have a Samba server (3.0.23a) running WINS for our network. The other day we had some extended power outages and a number of computers and network segments came up before DHCP/DNS servers causing a lot of confusion on our network until everything settled. DNS/DHCP an name resolution via DNS is not restored to proper working order however the WINS database has some bad data in it that I

Static entries NOT working (Debian, Ubuntu)
...c WINS entries in my Samba server, running on Ubuntu server. I read various forums and inputs on this mailing list mentionning the use of wins.dat which is located at /var/lib/samba/wins.dat Moreover, the samba.org official doc covers this (http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/NetworkBrowsing.html#id2584250) and also uses wins.dat The problem is that the entries I add to the file are not resolving, while I can resolve (I installed winbind) the other entries in it. I also tried using the lmhost file and provided the file to nmbd with the -H option, it still doesn't work. For the mom...

Servers disappear from Network neighborhood
I am using Samba-PDC-LDAP with samba-3.0.20b-1. On my file servers I am using samba-3.0.10-1.4. I'm not sure exactly what is happening but every couple of weeks the file servers disappear form network neighborhood. I checked browstat on my Windows system and it points to my PDC as the master browser and I checked the wins.dat file on my PDC and the systems were there. I did not check

Subnet not visible in Network Neighbourhood
Hi list! I've got a debian "etch" box running samba 3.0.24. The server is a firewall (running Shorewall 3.2.6) with five NICs: eth0 -> DSL (it has a public IP address and it allows all the people browse by masquerading other interfaces) eth1 and eth3 -> bond0 (IP address is 192.168.1.1/24) eth2 and eth4 -> bond1 (IP address is 192.168.2.1/24) BTW, bond+ refers to an

Unwanted Workgroup Names on WINS
Hello, There are many workgroup names on Microsoft Windows Network. Sometimes, users could wrong type the workgroups name on self computers, and creating new record on WINS server. I don't want showing the unwanted names to end users. Only two workgroups must be showed. Is it possible that I could clean unnecessary names? regards.

About join domain in different subnet.
Hi all: I have a question about join domain. If my samba server and domain controller are in different subnet (such = as 192.168.1.x and 192.168.2.x), two conditions happened: ADS domain 1. if I use domain name, then join fail. 2. if I use IP address of domain controller, join success. However, in both cases I can't retrieve domain users/groups. Is it necessary for samba sever and domain
