Nagios Monitoring with xentop
I am creating some custom nagios plugins and I am scraping data from
xen using the nagios command:
/usr/sbin/xentop -b -i 2 -d1
I am trying to get the network tx / rx data, however I think I am
missing something here.
NETTX(k) NETRX(k)
So total network bandwidth is 1048576 k if the above header from xentop is true.
So I am wondering why the output for each vm exceeds the theoretical
max, Is it really not measured in kilobits, or maybe there is
something screwy with the counters?
Any help is much appreciated.
If I...

network usage gathering
I''ve run into a problem gathering usage for my xen virtual systems. With my
old model I used to gather all network usage via my cisco devices using the
the counters for each port. Each system had it''s own port on the switch, and
I tracked network usage accordingly. Now that I''m using xen for virtual
systems, and multiple vm''s share the same switch port,

xen usage monitoring (munin plugin)
...inaly becomming ready for production I was
wondering if anyone has written a xen usage monitoring/logging tool?
Something like xm top, but with continuose logging to a (rr)database.
Or a munin plugin?
I can''t remember seeing anything simmilar on the list.
BTW: where does xm top get the NETTX(k) and NETRX(k) from?
For a munin plugin I''d imagin two modes:
- just monitor cpu usage off all domains (dom0 and domU) in one graph.
This can be parsed from xm list, or as suggested 2004/12/xx using some
more low level xen api. But I don''t know how to figure out which of...

xentop and vcpu-list???
Hi,
I have a couple of questions.
on Xentop:
In Xentop what does the NETS column mean. I see a NETTX and a NETRX, and i think they mean the number of network bytes transmitted and received.
Also what does the VBDs number mean. Is that the number of block device IO operations? or the number of IO bytes.
on vcpu-list:
I expected that at any point of time a pcpu would have only 1VMID in "r&q...

PVonHVM, Networking and xentop
...39;t just my misunderstanding. On my dom0 (Arch Linux, 64bit, AMD Phenom 2 X4 965 CPU, Xen 4.2.0 from my own PKGBUILD) I run "xl top" and xentop loads and shows all the currently running domains; only none of the domains have anything showing for network statistics (0''s for NETS, NETTX and NETRX). I see Disk statistics for the two domU''s; one is running Windows 7 and only shows that the VBD is allocated (1 VBDS, 0''s for stats, but running the windows PVHVM drivers conflicted with the graphics drivers so wasn''t expecting stats). The other domU is the Ubu...

How to monitor network usage
So I was poking around through the virt-manager and I saw the option
for ''network usage''. I''ve been trying to figure out a way to make sure
I know how much bandwidth my VM''s are using in a quick and easy way.
Whether I can script out a report or just log on and look real quickly.
So the point of this is what do I need to do to view network usages on
