Authentication with lower case username ONLY
Hi,
how do you guys force your users to authenticate with lower case letters
ONLY? Or convert it?
Is there a SASL Option to force that - or are you using scripts i.e. a
bash script in combination with the command "tr" ... or a third solution
I didn't think of yet?
I'm using Postfix / Dovecot combination. Postfix is told to use Dovecots
SASL Service to authenticate it's

SSL / TLS Problem
Hi,
since I upgraded to the new Thunderbird version 3.1 I can't establish a
TLS/SSL connection anymore. But before the update Thunerbird was able to
establish an encrypted session ...
Maillog shows me the following now:

sorry to bother, but all of a sudden after a fresh install of samba with

Postfix Dovecot LDAP setup
Hi,
since days I'm trying to substitude my SQL based Postfix/Dovecot mail
server by a LDAP based setup. Everything seems to go smooth so far -
thanks to the many how to and Dovecot wiki. Unfortunately I'm
struggeling, since I have to create individual a LDAP schema which suits
the currently used LDAP structure. The current tructure looks like this:
=> dc=MyDomain,dc=TLD

LDAP: "unused" & "uid missing"
Does someone know what this means? It looks to me like it got the UID,
yet it complains ... ? Also, why does it complain about attributes being
unused, yet I use prefetch, so they will be used?!

Content-Enconding
Hi,
With Apache one may use "mod_deflate" in order to reduce bandwidth by
using e.g. gzip to compress the http traffic. I would like to use
something similar for email traffic between mail clients to dovecote and
postfix. My questions are:
a) Is this established well enough in most mail clients?
b) Can you recomment a good tutorial for this?
Thank you very much

Content-Enconding
Thank you for your quick feedback. I added it to my plugins in the
config. How can I make sure my mailclients are using it? Is there a way
to check this like I can check headers with additional Firefox plug-in
you may recomment?
Kind regards
Leander

Copy a directory from macOS to Samba fails
When copying to QNAP NAS Samba server instead, all works fine - No need
for "xattr -d com.apple.FinderInfo filename" on macOS side before copying.
There must be a smb.conf solution to this?!
Thanks

Plain-Text & CRAM-MD5
Hi there,
I'm currently running my auth against CRAM-MD5 only. But I face problems
with customers who apparently have smart phones which ONLY support
plain-text authentification ;( Bad - I know, but what should I do ... ;/
So my question now is: Is it possible to run CRAM-MD5 as well as
Plain-Text auth together with Postfix if Postfix is using Dovecot's SASL
auth service?

AntiSpam Plugin
Hi,
I don't remember how to turn off debugging for AntiSpam plugin ... it
still writes it's debug output to /var/log/debug.log ... But everything
works fine now - so it can be turned off since it just wastes my Memory ...
Thanks & Regards

TLS_CIPHER_SUITE - OpenLDAP connection
What would be a working TLS_CIPHER_SUITE in ldap.conf for Samba 4. I'm
asking, cause I had to remove
TLS_CIPHER_SUITE TLSv1+HIGH:!SSLv2:!aNULL:!eNULL:!MD5:!3DES:@STRENGTH
from my ldap.conf for samba to work. This wasn't documented anywhere. I
think this should be mentoined in the wiki as well as in the man
smb.conf under tls.

Copy a directory from macOS to Samba fails
Hi,
unfortunately copying a directory from macOS to a Samba share fails, if
the macOS set ACLs in the source directory. The error on macOS side
basically informs the user, that the operation can’t be completed
because you don’t have permission to access some of the items.
Unfortunately macOS automatically sets these ACLs sometimes. Relevant
lines in my configuration file:
