auth. samba users against Win2K AD
Hi All,
We have a mixed Win2K and Linux environment, and we run Samba 2.2.3a on
SuSE 8.0 Linux. Assume you have users who have to access a share on Samba of
say /foo/bar, and the users are part of group 'somegrp' (they have
permissions to
modify stuff in /foo/bar, btw).
Now, assume said users exist on Win2K AD, is there any way to get Samba to
authenticate against Win2K when they go

Samba-2.2.0alpha-3 and smbmount
Hi All,
When I use smbmount to attach a NT 4 Server's drive C:, I use
the following command:
smbmount //inet_server_1/C$ /mnt/server1 -o
username=xxxxxx,password=xxxxxx,fmask=700,dmask=700,nosuid,noexec
now, if I am su'd to root, and do a df -h I get:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda1 6.7G 2.5G 3.8G 39% /
//inet_server_1/C$ 7.8G 3.2G

Win2K to Linux for File Serving
Hi All,
We are thinking about moving 1/2 of our files served by
Win2K to Linux and Samba-2.2.2. The machine in question will be
a 700Mhz machine with either 256/512MB running Caldera's OpenLinux
3.1 and the 2.4.x kernel system.
What I would like to know is what type of HD should I put
in this beast, and since this will be a first test in here for
linux as a file server, I want few

samba-2.2.2 and Linux 2.2.20 replacing Win2K?
Hi there,
I was wondering if you could give me some pointers as to how to get rid of the
spooge of microsoft from our office, and have samba-2.2.2 assuming file sharing
duties (read this as the Boss isn't happy with all the win2K crashes on the
NIC's)
The machine is a Pent-III 850Mhz w/256MB, dual NIC's, and 2 HD's (IDE) with
/dev/hda1 being where the OS is stored, and /dev/hdb1

Finding Computer on Windows Network
Hi All,
I'm sure i'm doing something stupid, but when I search for my Linux File
Sharing
Server (called 'linuxserver') by right clicking on My Network Places,
Search for Computers,
and typing in the computer name, the Search returns nothing, however, if I
search for it
via IP address, it finds the machine w/out any problems at all. Can
someone tell me
what i'm doing

SMBmount on more than one IP?
I am trying to get SMBmount to connect to a win2k machine with more than one
IP assigned to the NIC, it works ok for the first assigned IP, but when I
try the
2nd IP addr, it gives me a 'access denied', can anyone determine what the
problem would be?

Smbmount (2.2.3a) and windows
Hi All,
We changed out our main web server this morning in favor of linux/apache,
and everything was working well, except that we make smbmounts to the old
web server (it's xxx.xxx.xxx.51 now), the apache web server is xxx.xxx.xxx.2,
and when xxx.xxx.xxx.51 died, all the machines communicating with it (via
smbmount) stopped responding EXCEPT for the apache web server, which was

Auth. from Win2k Works
We have been able to get windows workstations to validate against win2k for
authentication, but in looking at local shares on the linux box (via samba), do
the users need to be localized to a group in /etc/group to allow access to
files
on the linux system that samba is running on. Here is the smb.conf we have
come up with (along with modifications):

Samba-2.2.0alpha-2 (interesting behavior)
Hello,
I am running Samba-2.2.0alpha-2 on a OpenLinux 2.3 (Caldera)
system, and I was wondering if this error message is NORMAL behavior
for a NT Server share mounted with the following command:
//inet_server_1/C /mnt/server1 -o username=xxxxxxxx,password=xxxxxx,ip=x.x.x.2
here is what is in /var/log/messages:

Semaphore Timeout on from Win2K to Samba
I have been using Samba w/out any problems what so ever for the longest time,
but today, I cannot connect to the linux box (shows up in network neighborhood
as 'LINUXSERVER'), but when I try to connect from a win2K machine (which
normally connects w/NO problems). Here is the output from /var/log/messages
(appears the problem is in smbd)
