Hi,
I am facing problem in sync time within DomU with Dom0. After gone
through mailing lists, I have set /proc/sys/xen/independent_wallclock
to 0. But still DomU are not syncing their time :-S Machine using

HVM Loader in 3.0.3-testing missing?
Hello list,
I''ve installed Xen 3.0.3-testing from source on my spiffy new socket AM2
machine and I''m eager to play with fully virtualized guests.
The problem is, it seems the hvmloader wasn''t installed (or built) when
I built and installed Xen.
I''m getting the following error :
Error: Kernel image does not exist: /usr/lib/xen/boot/hvmloader
So I did a quick

Trouble with xen-unstable x86_64
Hello,
I downloaded the latest unstable and installed on 2 amd dual athalon 64

Creation of additional image within a domU
Chaps,
Perhaps this question is a little basic for this list but I''m not
really sure of the simplest method or best tool for the job.
I''ve created some images with `dd=/dev/zero ....` and I''m using them
for the domUs now. Some of them have been running for a few months
with no probs. Trouble is that I''d like to create a separate partition
within the domU.

xen / AOE / vblade
I ran into an interesting/strange issue today. I still don''t understand
what happened, but in know what fixed it.
I had a situation where I could only see vblade exported devices from OFF
the physical machine. It seemed that if the packets went through two ports
of the bridge (instead of one port and the real interface) they got
"lost".
I sniffed around and failed to

Rate limiting for guests via ebtables
Hello to all,
I''ve got some guests that are really beginning to become bandwidth hogs.
Some of them are file mirrors, some of them are just simple ftp backup
servers.
I''d like to try ebtables with my public bridges to try and tame things a
bit, and was wondering if anyone has some snippets or scripts they would
like to share.
I''m new to ebtables, and am finding it a

Xen kernel prevents ALSA working
I''m using Xen under Debian Etch. I''ve managed to get my virtual
machines working and I''m happy with that. But I find that if I boot
Debian using the Xen kernel (version 2.6.18-4-xen-686), ALSA suddenly
can''t find either of my soundcards (an AC97 on the motherboard and an
M-Audio M44 PCI card). Everything else seems to work fine, networking
and bluetooth

vcpu performance : 1 vcpu for all guets or 4 vpcu ?
Hello all ;)
Tell I have a Xeon server with 4 vcpus
If on this box I have some guets, tell 10, what is the best solutions :
- Set all guests to 1 vcpu ?
- Set all guests to 4 vcpus ?
I well understand that if I set a guest with 4 vcpus and all others only
with one vpcus, then the one with 4 vcpus will have more "cpu time"
available than others guests.
But in case I''d like

Time/clock issues with Xen 3.0.3?
The time appears to be perfect inside dom0, however all the domU''s
tend to have a slightly faster date which gets further out of sync
every day.
I''m currently using Xen 3.0.3 with Gentoo Linux, under 3.0.2 I had no
problems with domU clocks. Are there any known issues which could
cause this? I''d strongly prefer not to run ntpd in every domU,
having all domU clocks in

Looks like the GSO is involved?
I got this while running Dom0 only (no guests), with a

iteration option for xentop?
Hello to all,
Does anyone know if there is an iteration option planned for xentop
(similar to top) to make it easier for simple shell scripts to scrape
the output?
I don''t see one in tools/xenstat/xentop/xentop.c , but I''ve been meaning
to play with stuff in libxenstat anyway. If its going to be added soon
I''ll tinker much later than sooner.
TIA :)
Best,

/proc/sys/xen/permitted_clock_jitter
Hello to all,
I''ve noticed a value of 10000000
in /proc/sys/xen/permitted_clock_jitter.
I''m assuming thats only checked if independent_wallclock has a value
greater than 0.
Does anyone know what unit the 10000000 represents?
Thanks in advance
Tim

vifname length
Hello to all,
Does anyone know if there is a maximum length of the vifname string? Is
this a xen limit or a kernel limit?
Say a string 10 characters long, other than the obvious hassle of
ifconfig truncating the name are there any other issues to think of?
Has anyone used a longer vifname and experience any quirks like possibly
snmp truncating the string too?
Many thanks in advance if anyone

How would you burn up 20GB of fiber on a Xen farm?
Hello to all.
I''m setting up a high capacity farm that''s going to allow many
departments of a company or project have their own resources.
I have little to no control over the brand of CPU (I would have much
preferred AMD) and name brand of the gear, but I do get some input on
what goes in each node.
They are dell Power Edge 2950''s, found here :

Re: disk config
Since your actually forming the raid on dom-0 and not inside of the
guest, there is absolutely no need to load md and associated modules in
the guest at all. The guest will just see the volume group you are
exporting as a regular sata drive the same size as the vg being
exported.
I''m guessing the second drive is for swap?
Hope this helps

Opteron 850''s needing a home
Hello to all,
I''ve lucked onto a case of Opteron 850''s and hope to try some 4 way and
8 way systems with Xen.
Can someone recommend a good 8x or even 4x socket 940 board that will be
condusive to a good experience with Xen? This will be only for
Paravirtualized guests (3.0.4).
My hope is to play more with Xen''s credit scheduler and try some of the
arch mixing

slightly less random random macs
Hello all,
There''s been many posts lately about problems that stem from either
duplicate macs, non static macs and other networking issues that would
be averted if a mac was specified upon vm creation.
I''ve been using this little function I wrote in my shell scripts that
setup dom-u''s from a csv file and its worked rather well, lets you
control the prefix and

Can Ctrl - ] to exit console be changed?
Hello list,
Today I was doing some troubleshooting of a service on a dom-u and
noticed that I couldn''t exit a telnet session because ctrl - ] just
dropped me out of console. When I went back into console, I was still in
the telnet session. Was using telent to see why monitors were reporting
an invalid greeting on some services.
Eventually the telnet session would time out, or I could

Warning regarding AMD Athalon 64 4200+(HVM/AMD-V)
Hello to all,
For those evaluating the AMD X2 4200+ series for the purposes of running
HVM guests, take a note below before purchasing if the server you are
purchasing happens to be made by HP.
There is an oddball version (apparently OEM sold to HP) which does *not*
support AMD-V technology. I''ve seen many of these on e-bay as well as
for sale / lease by popular co-location facilities.
