Change winbindd UID mapping
Hi, I'm running Samba 3.6.6 on Ubuntu Quantal. I have a need to manually assign some of the UID mapping on a samba domain member file server. I have used tdbtool to add the correct mapping record to winbindd_idmap.tdb. However, I am at a loss as to how to force that change to "propagate" so as to show in the permissions structure of the file system and in the output of such

SAMBA 3.0.1 Client for OS/2 and eCS
Hi all, I'm happy to announce that we ported the latest SAMBA Client to OS/2 and eCS. It is not a 1:1 port of the Unix stuff, we implemented it as a NetDrive Plugin which is a very handy way on OS/2 to map network drives. We also plan to port SAMBA Server in a second stage. For sure the full source is released under the GPL, including our NetDrive plugin. You can get the binaries and the

Shared drives not writeable
I am running Samba 3.6.6 on a Ubuntu 12.10 Samba domain member server. Users are authenticated against a Samba DC running 3.6.9 over an LDAP backend. I have a share configured as show below. Members of the 'staff-faculty' group can browse the share, but cannot write files to any subdir for which they are not the owner. It appears that the only reason they can read/traverse is because of

OS2 - Samba
Hi there, I tried to connect OS2 Warp 4 to Samba server. The network used to be NT 4.0 Domain, then migrated to Samba to become Domain Controller. I've followed below instruction, and still can't login to the domain. I can get an IP address and ping the Samba server, but can't login to domain and map any network share.

Slave only configuration
...ons are reading nut.conf, you would probably need "MODE=none" to prevent extra copies of upsd, the driver and upsmon. Creating a dummy upsmon.conf that can't log status or shut down the server is also a possibility. It's certainly possible for us to add an option like "MODE=netdriver" to nut.conf. ("slave only" has a bit of a namespace collision with the description for MODE=netclient, since that client logs into the server as a slave.) Then, we would need to get the various distributions to adopt that additional mode in their init scripts. I'm concerned tha...

Samba shares slow
Hi, I am running Samba version 3.0.22 for a small office where the clients are windows 2k and XP machines. basically everything works OK and the only problem I am facing now is that it takes ages before windows opens samba shares. I tried turning off web client in win xp which helped a little but it is still too slow. It takes almost 7 minutes to copy a 2G file to a windows machine from linux

Slave only configuration
It appears that, without munging the startup scripts, it isn't possible to create a slave-only configuration. The scenario is this: My NUT server doesn't need to turn off, it isn't allowed to turn the UPS off, and it isn't authoritative to turn any other server off. Its only job is to make UPS status available to NUT clients. My NUT clients are independent of the NUT server.

Convince me to buy TextMate!
I got a Powerbook recently and am debating buying TextMate. I installed the trial and have checked it out, but don''t see what''s so great about it. AFAICS it''s the Ruby and Rails macros for expansion and other stuff that might be it. Other than that, TextMate seems like a pretty basic editor. I currently use PSPad and Editplus, and I could probably get/make macros

%user hack still available ?
hi, does anybody know, if the famous "//server/share%user - hack" is still included in the latest sources? Does it lie dormant somewhere there and can be included by some "#def" ? Or does anybody know of a windows 95/98 gui/commandline-tool, where you can enter the password AND username to connect to a share ? Thanks in advance for your help. Solon

Samba4 DNS (bind_dlz) management issue on CentOS
To whom it may concern, Not long ago, I joined a Samba4 box as a DC to a single DC Windows 2003 Active Directory domain to begin the process of learning Samba4. Unfortunately, before I was ready to make the total switch, my Windows 2003 server died, and the remnants of my domain were left with Samba4. While I have got my Samba4 running fairly smoothly (after forcing it to take on fsmo

Difference between samba 2.0.0beta4 and NT4.0 ?
Hi Samba-gurus, I have a problem with samba 2.0.0beta4 on solaris 2.5.1 (samba 1.9.18p10 behaves the same) : 1. I have a ordinary text-file on a samba-share (foo.txt). NT4.0 sees the samba-share (\\sun100\tmp) as a netdrive with the letter K:. I've done a 'net use k: \\sun100\tmp'. 2. I can doubleclick in NT4.0-explorer on foo.txt and notepad comes up correctly. 3. I
