xen on openSUSE
...put the main bridge (called eth0 on my servers) into the up state, because it thinks that it''s already up, but it''s down in fact! So, I think the mentioned script should choose the branch above, if it finds the file /etc/SuSE-release. Or something like that. ...dy before diving into discussion what is good for security and how it affects that. That would be what I would recommend to myself (which I did way back...). If I were choosing the book to get good start today, I would choose: UNIX and Linux System Administration Handbook (4th Edition) 2010 by Evi Nemeth and Garth Snyder - don't worry about "outdated...", remember, you first need fundamentals. It is not as "fundamental" as some of the books of the past I remember, but I'd rather mention it that those really old books. I'm sure, someone may suggest better book, mayb...

read-in, error???
Dear Users! I encountered with some problem in data reading while I challenged R (and me too) in a validation point of view. In this issue, I tried to utilize some reference datasets ( http://www.itl.nist.gov/div898/strd/index.html). And the result departed a bit from my expectations. This dataset dedicated to challenge cancellation and accumulation errors (case SmLs07), that's why this

Brilliant logic about ignoring the publication date. I did a Google on "UNIX and Linux System Administration Handbook (4th Edition) 2010 by Evi Nemeth and Garth Snyder"...

Giving a domU direct access to a NIC
Hello, I am experimenting with Snort and other IDS and I would like to use Xen for these tests. This would require me to use port mirroring to sent a bunch of packets to a NIC located on my Xen machine. I don''t really know how Xen networking works, but is it possible to give a domU direct access to a NIC ? Or at least give it enough access so that it can see packets that are not for the

Slightly OT: How to learn UNIX
Hi, I was wondering what would be the best way to learn AIX, Solaris, or HP-UX, for someone who knows Linux very well? Books? Courses? Self-teaching in a home lab? Thanks, Ugo

I posted my results from what I thought was "the stock memtest-86+ 4.20 binaries" which I presume to be Syslinux core safety measures. What was different? Recommendation/pointers please - Need to brush up on CentOS/Linux command line tools
Hi all, I would very much appreciate any suggestions on any online resources, or even a decent book to purchase with the focus of brushing up on Linux command line tools. The focus is on troubleshooting type commands, adding users from command line and so forth. While I am reasonably comfortable using the command line, I will be the first to admit I am slow on some things and have gaps in
