Browsing automatic update
Hi, I've configured successfuly a Samba-LDAP PDC. When a Windows PC is up, I can see it in network neighbourhood but when it is down, I still see it in network neigbourhood. And the entry in browse.dat file still exists even the computer is down. Any suggestion ? -- Rapha?l Berghmans <rberghmans@arafox.com>

Problem with Samba-windows98
Hi all I have a linux(susse) running samba and am trying to connect from windows98. I have no problem seeing the linux computer in the network neigbourhood. I can also see the folders shared from it. When Im accessing a folder I get prompted for password (my login on windows98 is the same as for linux). But it doesnt accept the password "Bad password". When I log in from other windows98 computers in the network I have the same problem and...

Nothing work : Win2k Nethwork path not found
...steps of the issue to solve problems with samba. But in step, I think 7 the failure appears. I tried to enter "net view \\server ", but the answer is "Network path not found System error 53" -the ping is allright and everything works fine I can see the server in the network neigbourhood but I can't see any folders. -I can log in by the server itself with smbclient. -All deamons work and listen to the right ports. -lmhosts on both machines are right configured. strange browsing problem w/ Samba 3.0 - I am lost
...4-1.12 on SuSE 9.1 (kernel 2.6.5-7.75-smp) Samba is configured as a PDC and WINS server. DNS (bind 9) also works correctly on the linux box (acting as a forwarder to the ISP's DNS servers) - foward and reverse lookups work flawlessly from the box and from XP clients. When browsing the network neigbourhood from XP clients (XP Pro, SP 1, all security patches) all available XP clients of the domain show up, only the Samba Server (which - as indicated above - acts as the WINS Server) is missing and it does also not appear after some time. The file browser.dat (on linux) however includes the samba serve...

windows XP pro can not access samba share folder.
...on CentOS 4.2 with SELinux enable, everything is up 2 dated. I use swat to make a share folder. testparm doesn't show anything suspicious. Connecting to samba share folder from the same CentOS machine is possible. However, my Windows XP machines can only see my linux machine through network neigbourhood but they can not access it. Here is my smb.conf --------------------------------------------------------------- # Samba config file created using SWAT # from 127.0.0.1 (127.0.0.1) # Date: 2006/02/16 14:49:12 # Global parameters [global] workgroup = MSHOME ;note that encrypt passwd = yes a...

Resolved: NT4 + SP3 reports can't NetServerEnum2 using Samba
...ere NT 4.0 + Service Pack 3 servers repeatedly report they can't get the server list from the Master Browser when using a Samba WINS has been resolved. We found that upgrading from 1.9.17p11 to 1.9.18p4 suppressed the problem reports and also the problems the servers had in viewing the network neigbourhood. Many thanks to Paul Blackman who my employer will pay for his prompt assistance and audit of our SMB setup. I think it's possible that readers of this list can make a real contribution and provide a good commercial service if they can provide prompt knowlegable and effective help for the leg...

...les (virual cd). I have a share /data that is public I'm only able to connect from let's say 3 computers. Sometimes more. Is it a hardware problem? how do I solve that (now 3com 3c509). I tried also other (NE, AMDPCNET,...) Sometimes the win98boxes don't find the server in their network neigbourhood. What should I try. When I use my laptop as samba server (same config) I dont have the problem. Thanks

strange trouble with Win2k
...nd I'm experiencing strange problems with Win2k-Clients in a domain with the Samba-server as PDC. The clients can join the domain, authenticate users to the Samba server and access shares, thats o.k. However, they do not seem to believe that they are in the domain. If I click on "Network Neigbourhood", there is only "Entire Network", and if I browse down this list I can get to our domain. But shouldn't our domain ("SECKLER") appear on the same level as "Entire Network"? Of course seeing your domain on top level isn't important, but maybe this is an ind...

Wher should I look for more debugging? Did I miss anything? Or is my understanding of printing wrong? I am absolutely without an idea where to go from here on. Reading the samba-docs did no...

WINS and isolating groups
...le or involved in the client support, I want to prevent the different companies from seeing each other's PCs through network browsing, for example, company A consists of Joe, Mary and Pete, and Company B consists of Gary, Willy and Sue. Members of Company A, when they open their "Network neigbourhood" shouls see only Joe, Mary, Pete and Server, and members of Compayn B should on see Gary, willy Sue and Server. Is this possible? I have read of a WinNT4 setting - Wins scope (or something like that) but I can't find something similar in samba's manpages. This will not be a domain c...

My Documents on Win98 in domain not persistant
...no problem, profile is created and all seem OK, but it isn't. When I try to change the path of My Documents on the local machines to their userdir on the server, I can do it but when I close the properties window and then look again I get the old entry and can't access it. Access by the neigbourhood icon works well. Home directory on server ist writable. I have to edit the registry manually to change My documents path. What could be wrong? Here part of my smb.conf: #======================= Global Settings ======================= [global] log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m passwd chat = *...

blocking name diffusion within two subnets
...ds. This server is visible and serve his shares succesfully on two differents subnets. Ports 137,138 & 139 (both tcp & upd) are filtered between those two subnets by cisco switches. The problem is that all my computers on the first subnet are visible from the second subnet in the network neigbourhood. Only their names are visibles, their shares can't be displayed or used. As i say ports 137,138 a 139 are filtered so i suspect my smb server to broadcast netbios names from one subnet to another. Am i right? How could i stop that while keeping my server visible from the two subnets? Olivier...

No AUTH PLAIN with dovecot 2.0.19
Hi I have installed the package dovecot-postfix on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS: dovecot --version: 2.0.19 postconf -d | grep version: 2.9.6 and receiving email works very fine, but relaying email does not work. I think the problem is that after STARTTLS the authentication is not being executed 250-AUTH PLAIN 250-AUTH=PLAIN which means using telnet returns telnet mx2.wyona.com 587 Trying

formatting column names of data frame
Is there any way to format the headers of data frames, for printing? I am using Sweave to generate formatted reports. In Sweave, I read in a data.frame: result <- read.table(path.to.table); then display it: print.data.frame(result); This gives me what I expect in the eventual final output: Record Average Maximum 1 34

Do I need two instances of Samba on the same machine (3rd request) ?
I have two subnets S1 and S2 and only one machine running samba, but this machine is connected to both subnets, ahs one interface in each subnet and is acting as a router. I want to have a workgroup that spans the two subnets, so any machine in subnet S1 should see all the machines regardless of their subnet when doing browsing. I know that to do this I need: -One LMB in each subnet using Samba.

I see the share only once browsing the network neigbourhood. Is this normal behaviour or what's wrong with my config file? Thanks.
