Stumped at "Network Neighbourhood", Samba server is visible, but it's path can't be found ...
Hi all,
I can see the RH7.3 linux box I've configured with the latest
Redhat RPM samba package in the Windows 2000 network
neighbourhood, but when I double click the W2000 computer
icon I get the message
"\\Linuxbox is not accessible,
The network path was not found."
The network is a small switched lan, sadly with only one unix
box (RH7.3) and a mixture of Windows2000 and 98 machines. The
domain name is that of our se...

Network Neighbourhood samba 4
When you say, there is not network neighbourhood in samba 4 you mean that:
1: all the workstations show in the network neighbourhood except the domain controller.
2: There is absolutly nothing in the network neighbourhod, no workstations nor DC.

Server string in Network Neighbourhood
...aces ?
I have samba v1.9.15p8 running on a SGI O2 system, and I'm accessing its filesystems from a W95 PC.
I started off with the following line in my /etc/init.d/samba script
NMBD_OPTS="-C11th Floor SGI O2"
which results in only 11th appearing as the comment in the "Network Neighbourhood" window in W95. If I change the above line to
NMBD_OPTS='-C"11th Floor SGI O2"'
all I get is "11th as the comment. Am I doing something stupid or am I missing something here ?

Cannot see the samba server in Network Neighbourhood
...vious administrator.
I have upgraded to the version that ships with SuSE linux 8.0 and copied
over the old smb.config and smbpasswd files.
I can see the shares from a remote SWAT connection and also using the
interactive method via a DOS window, but cannot get the shares to be
seen via Network Neighbourhood. I am thinking that this may be a
NetBios problem, but cannot pinpoint it.
Any help would be muchly appreciated.

SMB-server from Win2k -> Red Hat Linux 7.2 - Samba 2.2.1a seen in Network Neighbourhood but not browsable
...onf file and my
server is accessible and running on the Linux mashine. I can connect with
smbclient to the Linux-mashine and to the win2k-mashine (hostname and service
are running). So far, so good. But I cannot connect from the win2k-mashine to
the linux-mashine, but I can see it in my Network-Neighbourhood. When I try
the command 'net use h: \\linux\public' I get an error-message (on the
win2k-mashine, telling me that the host deosn't exist). I tried the same
command with 'Linux' insted of 'linux' but it's not written in capitals

Troubles with Network Neighbourhood
Hi ,
I've some torubles with smb server provided with Debian 3.0 Woody - I
can't see any machine in network neighbourhood, altought all machines
are loging and mapping resources shared by server correctly. What
exactly is needed to be installed with smb - any DNS or something like
this? Maybe the question is not too clever, but when I've had my server
on RH7.2 there was no such troubles - and I'm becoming a li...

Unwanted browselists
Is there a way to prevent browselists from machines other than those
of my choosing to show up in the browselists/network neighbourhood?
I don't want win95 clients that offer shares themselves to show up
in the network neighbourhood.

Network Neighbourhood shows dual workgroups.
...ress for the machine. The DNS is
properly configured to resolve addresses.
We also have one samba machine configured as a client.
A couple of the Windows 95 stations are configured to share
the printers that they have attached to them.
The workgroup is CC_ADMIN. However when I bring up Network
Neighbourhood (NN) I see two CC_ADMIN workgroups. One has the
samba server and the other samba client in it. The other has
all the Windows 95 machines in it.
I can see the two samba machines with smbclient but I can't see
any of the Windows 95 machines with smbclient.
My question is why does this workgr...

NT network neighbourhood
...Samba. We bought new PCs with NT
service pack 4 and I am trying to configure Samba(2.0.x) so that users can
access their UNIX(Solaris/IRIX) files from NT. I have two kinds of
problems.
Things seems to be perfect when I try this with Win98 but with NT, I can't
see the UNIX server from Network Neighbourhood. But "net view" shows all
the shares and I can map the shares to drive letters in NT explorer.
The other problem with NT is that everytime a user logs in to the NT
workstation it prompts for password for each samba server(if a share is
mapped) even though s/he is using the same username/...

I have a question. First of all, here is where I am at. I can use smbclient
and access all the shares on my Windows machine.
And I can map all the drives that are shared on my linux machine. In other
words everything is working between my two machines.
Now, here is the problem. In 'network neighbourhood', I click on that and I
see the icon for my samba installtion but when I click on that
I see NO shares on my linux machine. I used to iin a previous installation
so I know this is possible. What am I missing for this information
to be missing.
I am so close to having everthing perfect, I wou...

Problem with master browser, Vista kills network neighbourhood
I have a Samba Server 3.0.23a running on a Fedora 4.
Since Vista entered my lan I've been having problems with
master browser elections. When a Vista client connects to my
workgroup it kills the network neighbourhood and the only
machines seen is the vista client and my fileserver.
By changing the regedit entries on the client side following
this advice:

Domain / Server disappear from network neighbourhood
Hello I attached my smb.conf as a reference but the problem is quite simple:
1) my server didn't show in the network neighbourhood
2) often the whole domain didn't show at all in the n.b. and if I try to
access it directly (i.e. typing the domain name) I got a strange error
("cannot find the network path")
P.S. Every single machine (server included) is viewable if referenced
directly (i.e. by typing \\machi...

The problem is that from my laptop (belonging to 192.168.1.0/24 subnet),
running Windows XP Pro SP2, in the Network Neighbourhood I can only see
machines belonging to my subnet. Machine of the other subnet are not
listed, even if I can reach them (e.g. \\machine shows me shares and
printers). The same for machines belonging to the second subnet, with
the difference that they can only see machines in their subnet.

severs don 't show in Network Neighbourhood
Hi all,
we are running 2 Novell PNW servers (1 printserver and 1 fileserver) and 6 Win
3.11 Clients since about 4 years with very little problems. But now our
production software cries for a 32bit OS. (Guess which one)
I tried to setup up something similiar with WIN98 and Samba 2.0.3. It works! I
can connect to my shares on both linux machines, ping them, print and copy
files, do my admin
