Logging in taking too long with roaming profile (not large profile issue)
Thus spake Nathan Ehresman (nehresma@css.tayloru.edu) [29/07/03 08:50]: > check out http://www.css.tayloru.edu/~nehresma/samba.html Check out the logs -- this is a completely different problem. Ed and I have been working on this for some time now, and while your solution wards off potential future problems, it doesn't fix the...

...e-like files (e.g. firefox/thunderbird sqlite files) that are stored in the users Application Data directory. The AppData directory in our case is on a mapped network drive and excluded from the set of files copied back and forth as part of the roaming profile. (See: http://www.css.taylor.edu/~nehresma/samba.html - we do something similar). The problem files are opened by the applications and held open for long periods of time and periodically queried and written to. Note that another common culprit is one of the various index.dat files in the IE related History or Cookie folders. What seems...

WINS Retention
How does one get rid of machines from the WINS database? They seem to hang around forever....and a restart doesn't solve it because the WINS data just gets passed around... Michael D. Black mblack@csihq.com http://www.csihq.com/ http://www.csihq.com/~mike 321-676-2923, x203 Melbourne FL

Difference between smbstatus and WINS (was WINS querying (Advance d))
...ere appears to be a timeout of this information as well. WINS does keep all this information based on when the client's machine first logs into the network, so it's a lot more accurate. Man, I wish it was that easy. Logging in taking too long with roaming profile
Hello, I am trying to setup a network of 5 XP computers with roaming profiles. I've got a profile set up on the server and I can log on. The problem is that the log in time takes about 10 mins and the log out takes just as long. Here is a link to the log file from the samba server. I have made comments on it to show what is happening on the terminal.

profiles?
Sometimes a user logging in takes a while. I suspect the time delay is due to the size of a user's profile. Where is the profile data kept and how can this data be scrubbed or compressed? Mike

Roaming Profiles Load Very Slowly
Hi! Looking for a bit of help! I have been using Linux for a while as a hobby, and can get around it pretty quickly. I have created a Gentoo Samba server and set it as PDC with roaming profiles (there are several other services running on the server as well). I can login with my XP machines and the profile is downloaded to the machine but it is VERY VERY VERY slow. After a login is

multiple ldap servers
Hello, I was looking at the ldap authentication code (in 2.2.5) and it looks like there is no support for having multiple ldap servers for authentication (ie, if one is not responding, try from a backup). Does anyone have a patch to add this functionality? If not, I'll go ahead and do it but I wanted to check to see if it has already been done first. Thanks, Nathan Ehresman

WINS Replication
Hey all, Just wondering about the current status of wrepld. Back in '02 Jean Fran?ois Micouleau was doing some work on it, but there does not appear to be any changes to the code since that spring besides updates to the entire tree that happen to touch the wrepld files. The Samba-HOWTO states that it is in "active development" and I was wondering if I could help with testing or
