napster
Would someone who has tried napster 2.0 beta 9 comment on how well it works under the influence of wine. Although I often download with gnapster, you can't share your files. If no one shares, there's nothing to download... Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/

Napster: Success! Almost. Guests group problem
So I was somehow able to successfully install Internet Explorer 6, Windows Media Player 10, and even Napster 4.5. Napster kept saying that WMP 10 was not installed, but eventually I was able to make the error go away (I'm not really sure how). But now when I start Napster I'm getting the following message: "You cannot play protected content if you are part of the Guests group. Please remove...

Napster 4.6.3.4 nearly running!
Hi Guys, I think I've nearly got the latest version of Napster running. I've installed WMP10 through WineTricks and then installed napster running in Windows XP compatibility. Napster installs fine and runs but complains about cookies not being enabled in the browser, which is preventing me from logging in. I've tried installing IE6 through winetricks...

Napster.......
Hello all. I'm new(ish) to the world of linux and am about to finally make the plunge and ditch windows completely. However, there's only one program that I want from windows that I use regularly and that is napster for it's music subscription service. It really is a brilliant service as the choice and variety can't really be matched. Now, I don't know if this is the right area to ask for things, but I was wondering if someone could some how majic it to work. I realise that there music comes in WMA...

Belgium police raides homes of Napster users (!!!)
...office said Thursday. Police searched the home of the first suspect in late December and two more in January, Olivier Bogaert, a prosecution spokesman, told Belgian news media. He said the searches were part of an investigation of the Internet site Mp3blast.com, but added that four cases against Napster users are under review. Marcel Heymans, general director of the Belgium branch of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, said he warned police of alleged copyright infractions. Heymans said his organization had tracking equipment that could search for violators "by the tho...

File sharing (napster like)
Hi, Here we go, lots of questions... What about Filesharing clients as Morpheus (Kazaa) or winmx? Do this clients work with wine? With or without an installed windows? I've tested all of them with current release and cvsbuild (without installed windows), install worked, but I'm not able to run winmx and morpheus crashes (null handler or something like this). Is there a demand for the

Ideas...
...stations. I''d like to know if anyone out there has any suggestions about how to use CBQ to limit the bandwith at each station. We only have a 128k circuit. The problem I am having is that since I have that tiny pipe, one or two people unknowingly hog all the bandwith with applications like napster and my other customers who are just viewing web pages get pissed. Again, I want to rate limit each individual station. Do I have to have an ingress rule for EACH ip address? Any ideas would be very helpful.. Thanks sincerely! Errol

What kind of Ogg Vorbis-services you would like to have?
...e very cheap)for end-users. (It would be financed mostly by advertising) *Service should create value to you. *Service should be interesting and value-creating for others too! *It shouldn't break common ethical values *I don't want another Napster! *And most importantly service would somehow exploit Ogg Vorbis-format! *Service would be something new and innovative or something old but which is innovatively arranged to serve Ogg Vorbis-users. I COULD REALLY USE SOME HELP! So, please answer my question! By answering my quest...

Internet via Firewall
...t it cannot find anything outside the domain. The funny thing is... if I use the native linux Netscape, I can access webpages outside my domain too. This means my PC can access the internet, but somehow this does not work under Wine. This situation is true for all my internet apps such as telnet, napsters, etc. What did I do wrong? Do I have to add some special configuration to Wine so it recognizes Firewall? any suggestions are appreciated...

Re: mp3pro and the mp3 streaming license]
...ation is even finished. You shouldn't have to pay the RIAA >anyway, and the fact that they are even involved is astrocious. I think having the DMCA repealed would be too much to hope for, but one can dream right.. :) I agree that they shouldn't have been involved in this at all, but Napster was bound to attract their attention to what was going on online.. I think they were pretty clueless before that, and now they see an untapped potential revenue stream. Anyone can say what they want about Napster and the other services of that nature, in regard to how the RIAA hasn't lost a...

Re: mp3pro and the mp3 streaming license]
...ustry? It doesn't make sense. The media industries have far better lobbying and influence than any of the new tech industries. And it shows, because we are losing on every front, because we didn't help make any of hte laws we are being prosecuted and sued under. Where were companies like napster when the DMCA was enacted? There was barely time for DiMA to get organized to at least participate in those days. > Everyone at some time or another tries to pull a > fast one.. if they try to pull a fast one in court, well, we're supposed to > have people that can see through that...
