Video card suggestions
...--------------------
history is below:
I prefered nvidia as they have a decent method of driver updates.
I presently have the FX5200. It actually works at 1920x1080p but the nv
driver locks up.
I downloaded the nvidia drivers and they will not run at 1920x1080p.
I then purchased another card the MX4000 the specs said it would do more
than 1920x1080
but the FINE print said in DVI mode it only does 1600x1200.
All the cards I find say 1920x1080i.
I tried a P650 also from Matrox but I could not get the drivers to work
at all on linux.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Jerry

Missing Text in Wine 1.1.12
Hello,
I am running a fully updated Intrepid Ibex 8.10 on my desktop. I installed Wine from the repositories using
Code:
sudo apt-get install wine
Wine 1.1.12 is downloaded & installed correctly but none of the menus or buttons have any text in them. Clicking on any button flashes the text on it. Everything else is replaced by _ .
Here are a couple of screenshots :

Wine config screen
I can't believe that I am the only person this has happened to.
I went to the faq page and found a situation that sounded right but I am
still doing something wrong.
If anybody can tell me how I can make this screen readable, I would be
very grateful.
I am running wine 1.7 I THINK. It is hard to read any of the info that
the program is sending me. The programs that I run in wine seem to

256 colors (8bit) graphics not working
I am trying to get one of my kids Windows CDROM based programs to work
under Linux/wine.
With Google and man pages I got past some problems, but now the
application starts and then exists saying that it want 256 colours to run
best !! (It does the same on Win98 until you set the screen to 256
colours, then it is OK. But with Linux I thought I could find a better
solution !)
