ipportfw - security
Hi Are there any known security holes or necessary precautions in using port forwarding with ipportfw? I'm planning on forwarding ports from an outer firewall/router (connected to the Internet) to a host in the DMZ, then on from the DMZ host to the inner firewall, and finally from the inner firewall to some host on the inside. Thanks, Jens jph@strengur.is From mail@mail.redhat.com Wed

ssh and chroot...
I have a RedHat 6.0 x86 server which is serving a number of minor things, which I wish to add shell access to. I'm currently running sshd and am quite happy with it, the exceptiong being that I am unable to make sshd perform a chroot for shell account users. I have been reading man pages and howto's, many of which discuss sshd or chroot, but never the two together. Is this not an

Anyone using VT-d for GPUs on desktop/workstation?
Is there anyone actually using VT-d for GPU cards? From what I understand NVidia is impossible, but AMD does work for some cards. I would appreciate any hints from people that are actively using this technology. -- Simon Toth

Problem with TCP_wrappers
Hi, I''m running into something weird here. I''m using RH5.1 with tcp_wrappers 7.6. The syntax for hosts.allow and hosts.deny is: <service list> : <access list> [ : <shell_command> ] Everything works when I _don''t_ use the shell_command. I used the _exact_ line as in the man-pages utilising "safe_finger" (comes with tcp_wrappers), tcpdchk

variance?,...
hi I'm learning R and making some examples. One of them is that for given distribution I show density function, distribution function expected value and variance(?). I know EX <- function(xval, xprob) sum( (xval*xprob) ); where xval is vector of values and xprob vector of probabalities, but DX <- function(xval, xprob) EX((xval^2),xprob) - (EX(xval,xprob))^2; doesn't work as I

openssh (fwd)
Some people on the OpenSSH list have expressed an interest in Kerberos version 5 support. Below is a (non-US) URL recently posted for a patch to OpenSSH to work with Heimdal, the international K5 implementation. I haven't checked to see if the patch would work with MIT or MIT-derived K5 libraries. -- Mike Fisk, RADIANT Team, Network Engineering Group, Los Alamos National Lab See

SSH security hole found
>From http://lwn.net/#security A vulnerability present in the SSH software package can allow an attacker to execute arbitrary commands on the SSH server. To protect against this, immediately upgrade to ssh 1.2.25. Red Hat ssh-1.2.25 RPMs are available, as is the Debian ssh-1.1.25 package for hamm (Debian 2.0-to-be). There are SSH 1.2.25 RPMs here:

Finally cracked the mystery of motherboards with Vt-d support
After contacting Asus, MSI and Gigabyte, this is what I got back. Only motherboards with the QXX chipsets and certified with the Intel VPro support the Vt-d virtualization technology. I''m not sure about MSI though, because this is what I got from their support: "Almost board could support. Please refer to our website, http://www.msi.com/product/mb/." The problem is that

Permissive devices in Xen
Hello, is there any reason why even permissive devices cannot write some areas in the PCI config space? The PCI_COMMAND is handled in special way so that the device is enabled/disabled properly, am I right? Why is PCI_INTERRUPT_LINE read from dev->irq and not from the config space? Why the PCI address bars are handled in very different way? And it seems that writing these bars is never

singular matrices in plm::pgmm()
Hi list, has anyone succeeded in using pgmm() on any dataset besides Arellano/Bond's EmplUK, as shown in the vignette? Whatever I try, I eventually get a runtime error because of a singular matrix at various points in pgmm.diff() (which gets called by pgmm()). For example, when estimating a "dynamic" version of the Grunfeld data: data(Grunfeld, package="Ecdat") grun

SF Beer & Pizza SIG - review and forecast
Wednesday''s Beer & Pizza SIG was attended by about a dozen Rubyists, plus one extremely well-dressed gentleman (no hacker he!) who was on the prowl for Rubyists to hire. Beer and Pizza (among other things) were consumed, Ruby (among other things) was discussed, and everyone appeared to have a good time. The upcoming SIG will, as announced previously, be held just up the street at

Curious about final KRB5/GSSAPI patch inclusion.
What is the target version for all the KRB5 bits to be in place. I know there is very much in place right now, but I remember someone mentioning there was just a GSSAPI/MITKRB5 patch being waited for. TIA. -- Austin Gonyou Systems Architect, CCNA Coremetrics, Inc. problems with saving plots from loop
Greetings, I cannot find solution for this problem (I was searching on web, but without success): I want to plot dose-response models for one concentration and many responses (lets say 200) and I don?t want to do it manually. So I use loop for this: for (i in mydata[,2:201]){ #first column is concentration pdf(paste("plot_",i,".pdf",sep = ""))

Deadlock in dlmmaster.c
Hi, I've found some possible deadlock in fs/ocfs2/dlm/dlmmaster.c - version 2.6.28 (probably this code is in newer versions too). Could someone confirm this?
