Slow operation on multiprocessor machine
I was wondering if anybody else had seen the following:
I have a multiprocessor system (Intel P4). I use Wine to run the Tasking
56300 DSP compiler (Tasking, brilliant folks they are, *had* a Linux
version, that they DROPPED support for!).
Doing a build of a fairly large project (over a hundred files), with
nothing much else going on, the compiles run very slowly, the syst...

multiprocesor : bridge/router ?
hi,
does someone tried bridge and or router functionality of linux kernel on
multiprocessor system.
Does multiprocessor system increase network performance or give
ability to process higher traffic..
What about highest possible troughput someone have achieved ?
etc..

Xen 3.2.1 w/WinXP "ACPI Multiprocessor" HAL...
Hi All,
Was curious if anyone successfully running WinXP HVM (x86) under Xen
3.2.1 with the HAL set to "ACPI Multiprocessor" without using up oodles
of CPU time? Works great with "Standard PC" but would like to get all
the CPU cores accessible for XP...

Xend highly uses CPU with multiprocessor setup
...right now is to set dom0_cpus to 1 in
xend-config.sxp. But this set dom0 cpus except the first one to paused
state and the dynamic configuration changes are not propagated to domUs
(e.g. memory [in/de]crease).
Can anybody tell me how to handle dom0_cpus correctly and what can be
the issue with multiprocessor setup of xend - the high cpu usage?
I already sent bugreport to Debian [1], but with no answer till now.
Thanks.

Asterisk's MultiProcessor Ability
We have asterisk running on a quad processor dell. The kernel has been
compiled with SMP.
However, asterisk seems to only use 1 processor. 3 of the 4 always stay at
100% idle.
Is it pointless to have a multi-proc machine? I was going to buy a new dual
3.6Ghz Xeon server but if nothing will take advantage of the other proc...
Perhaps my conception of multi-proc/threaded is warped. If asterisk is

Running wine on multiprocessor
Hi,
What would I need to do to make wine run LotrO on just one core, or How do I set it to use both to test if that helps?

How is R working in multicore and multiprocessor environment?
My Dear R buddies,
I'm feeling ashamed that I've been running my R program on some
servers for a while but do not know exactly how R is working. The
servers are chained together using Sun Grid Engine. Each node has 8
quad-core CPUs. I wonder how many cores and CPUs are used by a simple
single-thread R program. Thanks a lot.
Best wishes,

Large data files
...ns,
partially I have to convert them in to matrices(550 x 550) for doing
calculations.
Ultimately, I have to import many (ca 20-100) of these tables, which
will be impossible
on my current machines due to memory limitations.
My question now is the following:
At work I have access to the following multiprocessor machines:
a, Compaq Proliant Server: 4 x Pentium II/450MHz, 2 GB RAM, Win NT
b, Sun Enterprise 450 Server: 4 x SPARC/??MHz, 2 GB RAM, Solaris 2.6
For testing purposes I would like to install "R":

2, Which machine would be better suited...

err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection on Mac OS X 10.5.7
...ng though works.
The real Problem is that after a while i get such a message:
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x69e008 "?" wait timed out in thread 0009, blocked by 001b, retrying (60 sec)
and the Program just freezes.
Now i've found mentions in the appdb that this is a multiprocessor problem and can be fixed by using schedtool under linux. My Question now, can i do something on Mac OS X, like e.g. compiling wine to only use one Core or some tool to schedule similiary under OS X?
Thanks in advance guys.

Is there a multi-processor version of Xentop ?
Hi,
Can someone please tell me if there is a multiprocessor version of xentop
available or in the making ?
I notice that the current xentop does not give any information per physical
cpu on a multiprocessor machine.
Thanks and regards
Arjun

What will be the future of Theora?
...g2theora the last version 0.16 is from February and the last
version of Theora was released in June , will be a ffmpeg2theora new version
soon?
Other question , in SOC there was a project to make Theora hardware decoder
, which was the result?
Another good request is that xiph develop a theora multiprocessor encoder
library.
Last , i see there is a lack of programs to edit Theora , not to convert to
Theora or play Theora , i mean programs to cut Theora files , join Theora
files , add Theora files ...

SMP goes away after installworld (4.8-STABLE)
...the
cvsup/buildworld/buildkernel/installkernel/installworld/mergemaster/MAKEDEV

Went fine, rebooted, then noticed that just one CPU was recognized:

io0 (APIC): apic id: 1, version: 0x00170011, at 0xfec00000
I confirmed my kernel config was OK, rebuilt it, rebooted
and got the same result. I also looked at 'mptable' and 'top'

Dual CPU performance in routing
Hello
I have question, currently using linux box as router. It only route packets.
Currently there is 80k packets/sec and this cause 90% CPU usage on
Intel Celeron 3ghz CPU.
Did multiprocessor system like 2x XEON DP 3.4ghz will divide CPU
usage between 2 CPU and will allow double routing performance ?

Only one CPU core detected on Supermicro E3-1240 v3
Hello,
I am trying to install FreeBSD 9.2-RC4 on Supermicro server with Intel Xeon E3-1240 v3 processor. The processor has 4 cores with 8 threads. However only one core is detected (with two threads):

FreeBSD/SMP: 1 package(s) x 1 core(s) x 2 SMT threads

cpu1 (AP): APIC ID: 1
The motherboard is Supermicro X10SLM-F. All cores are enabled in BIOS and the latest firmware is installed (version 1.1a, Build Date 08/20/2013).

Setting up an IAX2 trunk
I am trying to set up an IAX2 trunk between two
servers.
Server A has the following in iax.conf:
[general]
...
[ServerB]
type=friend
trunk=yes
host=dynamic
secret=myPassword
context=myContext
Server B has the following in extensions.conf:
[outgoing]
exten=>_40X,1,Dial,IAX2/ServerB:myPassword@x.x.x.x/${EXTEN}
I am using bmtools to monitor the bandwidth usage, and
I am not seeing a difference.

xen kernel smp; but only one cpu
Hi
Booting my Xen Dom0 on Debian Etch (Kernel is the prebuild one from
bits.xensource.com), I found that only one cpu core (of two: dual core)
is recognized by the (dom0-)Kernel. Googling this issue, I found on
xen-devel-list that xen kernel is named smp but isn''t really doing so.
Is there any (prebuild) kernel that I can use for smp?
Thanks

What can cause this? Can it fail if something is commiting when I

IAX2 Vs SIP cpu load
Hello
Is it correct that IAX2 uses more CPU, than SIP? Also, can it be true that IAX2 is much more sensitive against high CPU loads?
Also, does Asterisk support and use multiprocessor architectures, such as Xeon?
?

Jon
