samba 3.0.23a + ldap as PDC - should work, but why?
I've got an issue with roaming profiles with samba 3.0.23a and an LDAP backend. I can use the ldap to authenticate an NT and a local user, and I know alot about PAM, NSS, and general linux. BUT, I can't get ANY roaming profiles to work.
Other than my domain name changed for security purposes, the following is my smb.conf file. (I first used SWAT, then did more customization)

Ah, I was afraid that is what was meant there and that one could only
manage acls for windows systems/users via MS tools.
But as you can only have one [Profiles], and if you WILL have posix

samba profiles
...blem, i use atm 3X Samba Servers
1XPDC
1XBDC
1XFileserver
ATM I have all profiles/homes on the PDC, but I need it on BDC too.
My thought the best way is I move the /homes to the Fileserver.
And now comes my problem, what must I change on the smb.conf?
Logon path = \\fileserver\profiles\.msprofiles
<file:///\\fileserver\profiles\.msprofiles>
Logon home =\\fileserver\profiles\%U\9xprofile
And on share:
[profiles]
comment = Network Profiles Service
path = /Data/samba/home <---that's my DIR where the files are
is this ok ??

net use /home ?
Is 'net use x: /home' deprecated nowadays? I just upgraded a very old Samba 2 to 3.2.8 and suddenly no workstations at all can use that command to map to their home directories.
Workstations are W2k, Win XP and Vista in a mix. Neither work.
Samba use LDAP as back end, and the related posts in smb.conf are these:
logon path = \\%L\profiles\%U\.msprofile
logon script = login.bat
logon home

'logon drive' questions
Hello list, I sent this about two weeks ago, but I didn't get an
answer... so I'm pushing my luck. :-)
QUESTION#1: What EXACLTLY causes the HOMEDRIVE, HOMEPATH, and
HOMESHARE variables? Something passed from Samab to the client, or
some thing the client does?
QUESTION#2: How/what/where/why is there a difference in the results
of click on "Command Prompt"?

Following symlinks
I'm struggling with following symlinks with samba on the recent
versions. I cannot use mount -bind as I've seen others suggest. This is
for my mythtv backend, so I'm using the rename script to create nice
names for the recordings.
Anyway, I can map the drive from Windows XP and Windows 7, and see
symlinked files, but I cannot open or copy them as I used to be able to do.

Windows 7 32 bit doesn't "upload" the profile to the server on logout but Windows 7 64 bit does
Hello,
I have a Samba 3 PDC running on SLES 11 SP3. All the machines have
joined the domain correctly, and users can log to their profiles
correctly.
On Windows 7 64 bits profile roaming works nicely without any problem
(login is just a bit slow and it takes about 45 seconds while logout is
really fast).
On Windows 7 32 bits profiles are "downloaded" from the sever correctly

share access problem with %G
Hi,
I learning samba on SUSE 9.3 linux box. I followed the Samba "Small Office
Networking" example to configure the server, but I have problem to access
the share "accounts" / finsvcs until I changed the valid users from %G to
@acctsdep.
Here are the output from the console when I accessing the share "accounts"

Difficulty with samba after updating from 3.6.6 to 4.9.0.0
Server - HPUX 11.31
Clients - WIN7 WIN10
After upgrading my versions to 4.9.0.0 I've noticed that we're unable to connect to our AD joined SMB HP-UX Server any longer.
Could someone tell me where to begin digging in release notes between 3.6.6-4.9.0.0 to find out what changed in the smb.conf file that would be causing our problems?
Here's a somewhat similar .conf output

This is the global part of smb.conf, its the standard part
of a fresh openSUSE installation:

share write access
Hi,
I am testing share parameters, and have the following share definition:
## Section - [shareA]
[shareA]
path = /tmp/shareA
writelist = user1
and do not understand why user1 cannot write files in the share when
connected as user1. Unix permissions for the share files are rw for
everyone, and the share directory has wide-open permissions. Samba version
is 3.0.20b-3.4-SUSE.
