Neverending story: Networking in domU
Hi,
i allready searched the archives, but found no message that really helps me.
i am running debian etch on dom0 and debian sarge on domU.
I had a running setup with debain sarge on dom0 before, but now with etch i can not get networking to work in domU.
I use routed networking, but the same seems to happen with bridged networking: eth0 within domU is not brought up.
I think it maybe related

virt-v2v: error: redefinition of 'glib_autoptr_clear_OsinfoList'
Hi All,
I'm attempting to compile virt-v2v 1.42.0 on Debian testing. With gcc
9.3.0, libosinfo 1.7.1, and glib 2.64.2, `./configure && make` fails
on libosinfo-c.c with the following error message:

I am able to add non rbd images without an issue.
Any thoughts?

[PATCH] v2v: Add support for libosinfo metadata
...libosinfo namespace for libvirt domain metadata. For now
it supports the id of the OS only. However that is still a very helpful feature
that is already supported in gnome-boxes and virt-manager (at least).
The discussion happened here:
https://www.redhat.com/archives/libosinfo/2018-September/msg00003.html
So let's add the support to local and libvirt outputs.

Reboots when 2nd domu started?
Hi,
I found this email
http://lists.xensource.com/archives/html/xen-users/2006-12/msg00119.html
while browsing the xen-users list.
Apparently quite a few users are seeing related problems (reboots when
starting a 2nd or 3rd domU).
I don't really like the proposed workaround to use a 2.6.18 kernel
backported from sid.
I searched through this lists archive and bugs.debian.org but

Re: virt-v2v: error: redefinition of 'glib_autoptr_clear_OsinfoList'
...in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.
Uhm, that's indeed a problem, and apparently due to a bug in libosinfo
and a change in glib.
I just posted a change that should fix this, see its message for a
longer explanation of the issue:
https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2020-June/msg00003.html
tested on Fedora 31 and Debian testing.
I mentioned your name in the commit message to give you credit for
the report, is it OK for you? (If not, I will remove it before
pushing.)
Thanks,

How to enable SHA1 passwords after migration from OpenSUSE?
Hi there!
I have recently migrated my old server from OpenSUSE 10.0 to CentOS 5.
Almost everything works great, except for one thing - user passwords.
In the old system they were in a form:
root:$2a$05$9V.P3/KV2fd0r/O8hs0gNueaidF35edj3DL6skb32qZJNpvwVHiUO:12183:0:99999:7:::
and that format doesn't seem to be understood by CentOS. When I change
the password I get something like:

[LLVMdev] LLVM 2.7 gcc binary package: please ship libstdc++.so instead of .la + .a
...ugh: -lstdc++ was not found,
simply putting the symlink wasn't enough either since the .a was picked
up still)
I think its a mistake in the binary package: the .la and .a shouldn't be
shipped, and the .so should be built & shipped!

Fasttrack Repo on CentOS 4
A quick question on the fasttrack repo which is now
up to date with upstream. Why is the fasttrack repo not
in the main CentOS-Base.repo file but contrib which has never
had anything is included in the main CentOS-Base.repo file?
The goal of CentOS is to be binary-compatible with upstream so
fasttrack is "more important" in this regard than contrib.

I've also fixed up the netkit telnet / telnetd code to work with EXTPROC /

Trouble installing xapian on windows
Hello, i am trying to install xapian on windows. As the xapian download page says, there are two options here:
1) mingw
2) a separate set of makefiles for MSVC.
If i understand correctly, MSVC is supported only by xapian 1.2.8 and older, so i decided to try mingw. The configure script worked perfectly, but "make" finished with a error (see the output below). So far i have two

Reducing code size of Position Independent Executables (PIE) by shrinking the size of dynamic relocations section
...;d like to share and get feedback on.
Our work is based on the 'experimental-relr' prototype from Cary that is
available at 'users/ccoutant/experimental-relr' branch in the binutils
repository [1], and was described earlier in this thread:
https://sourceware.org/ml/gnu-gabi/2017-q2/msg00003.html
We've taken the '.relr.dyn' section from Cary's prototype, and implemented a
custom encoding to compactly represent the list of offsets. We're calling the
new compressed section '.relrz.dyn' (for relocations-relative-compressed).
The encoding used is a simple comb...
