OpenSSH and keystroke timings
Old news, but ... http://lwn.net/Articles/298833/ I first posted about this back in 2001 and it's still not resolved: http://osdir.com/ml/ietf.secsh/2001-09/msg00000.html 1) high latency networks are a reality that will never go away. In fact they will only become more prevalent since distributed networks continue to grow broader but (surprise) the speed of light remains a constant. 2) character-at-a-time protocols have both security and performance costs. 3...

updated samba 4.18 & 4.17 packages for debian & ubuntu to address trust issue with windows 10/11 update 07/2023
We just made the updated packages available in the official debian bookworm archives, see https://lists.debian.org/debian-stable-announce/2023/07/msg00000.html (yes, it is exactly the same package as has been available from my repository, just built within debian infrastructure instead of my local). Thanks, /mjt

mode data=journal. Is it safe to use?
Hello I can see several postings on this mailing-list that people have problem with mounting ext3 partition with mode data=journal. See URL's: https://www.redhat.com/archives/ext3-users/2004-March/msg00000.html https://www.redhat.com/archives/ext3-users/2004-March/msg00050.html We are going to use ext3 on a Compact Flash disk in true IDE mode. We need this filesystem to be as safe and consistent as possible. We can not tolerate any garbage in the files after a crash or sudden power failures. We have...

Migration of ovirt-devel to new lists @ovirt.org
.... These changes are part of the launching of the new oVirt site and expanding the community to include the open sourcing of the Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization stack. Some of the groundwork for these changes were discussed earlier on list: https://www.redhat.com/archives/ovirt-devel/2011-January/msg00000.html https://www.redhat.com/archives/ovirt-devel/2011-June/msg00000.html So, while it has been quiet around here lately, expect a lot more activity and noise on the relaunched and re-invigorated ovirt.org site and mailing lists in the very near future. The ovirt-devel at redhat.com mailing list w...

windows printer config management
Hello, I sent this request to my local linux user group: <http://lists.luv.asn.au/wws/arc/luv-talk/2008-02/msg00000.html> Unfortunately it looks like nobody is able to answer, so I will try here: Does anybody know of any sane solution for (globally) managing the configuration of printers on a large number of Windows computers? My current solution is 1. create samba server with printer shares 2. install wi...

LDAP, sieve, and virtual users
...which could generate basic filters from templates and store their sieve filters in LDAP so I didn't have to deal with somehow writing to files in their virtual home dirs on the mail server. I have found old conversations such as: http://www.mhonarc.org/archive/html/ietf-mta-filters/1999-06/msg00000.html but do not see where any standard way of doing this has come about. Or really even any implementations at all of sieve stored in LDAP. Neverending story: Networking in domU
Hi, i allready searched the archives, but found no message that really helps me. i am running debian etch on dom0 and debian sarge on domU. I had a running setup with debain sarge on dom0 before, but now with etch i can not get networking to work in domU. I use routed networking, but the same seems to happen with bridged networking: eth0 within domU is not brought up. I think it maybe related

ext3 4TB fs limit on amd64 (FAQ?)
Hi, I've a question about the max. ext3 FS size. The ext3 FAQ explains that the limit is 4TB. http://batleth.sapienti-sat.org/projects/FAQs/ext3-faq.html | Ext3 can support files up to 1TB. With a 2.4 kernel the filesystem size is | limited by the maximal block device size, which is 2TB. In 2.6 the maximum | (32-bit CPU) limit is of block devices is 16TB, but ext3 supports only up | to 4TB.

But qemu+OVMF aborts when trying to boot via -cdrom (-hda works fine). https://lists.debian.org/debian-knoppix/2017/04/msg00000.html A problem with general discussion of its EFI equiment is that Knoppix 8.0 is not yet available for download.
