Strange behavior and don't know what to investigate. Have you ever heard about this problem ? Thanks and Hi, Samuele.

Rounding problem R vs Excel
For numbers ending in 5 Excel always rounds up and I want to reproduce this in R rather than use the round function. I have tried: x<-as.integer(x*100+0.5)/100 and x<-floor(x*100+0.5)/100 However, some values of x cause problems e.g x<-floor(4.145*100+0.5)/100 4.14 I have tried breaking it down into steps and force the results to 10 significant figures in the following function,

Send_file and Firefox
Hello, I am trying to use send_file in my controller to serve up specific content: (.doc, ..xls) Seems to work fine in IE, but in FF (1.0.7, on Windows) after the file d/ls and the app (MS Word, MSExcel) opens up with the content, a blank window comes to the front (gets focus). Any idea how to prevent this? Do I need a redirect_to after the send_file in my controller''s download_file action? Thanks

For those who have never used it, odbc is a database and platform independant API which provides an SQL interface to a large number of database engines. Manage huge database
Hello, Recently I have been trying to open a huge database with no success. It’s a 4GB csv plain text file with around 2000 rows and over 500,000 columns/variables. I have try with The SAS System, but it reads only around 5000 columns, no more. R hangs up when opening. Is there any way to work with “parts” (a set of columns) of this database, since its impossible to manage it all

Recommendations for a quick UI.
Hi. This is my first post to this list, I seem to be graduating to from the r-help list. :-) I'm trying to wrap my R package in a GUI such that when the user launches the app, they see my GUI window and never interact with the R console at all. I don't have any fancy requirements for the GUI itself-- all it needs to do is collect input from the user and pass the input as arguments to

Building Custom GUIs for R
I am looking to build simple GUIs based on the R codes I have. The main objective is to hide the scary R codes from non-programming people and make it easier for them to try out different inputs. For example, 1. The GUI will have means to upload a csv file which will be read by the R code. 2. A button to preprocess data (carried out by a R function behind) 3. A button to build some models

How do I get my IT department to "bless" R?
I currently use R at work "under the radar", but there's a chance I could loose that access. I'd like to get our company to feel comfortable with open source and R in particular. Does anyone have any experience with their company's IT department and management that they would be willing to share? How does one get an all Microsoft shop on board with allowing users to user

(I have dealt with similar problems before with RODBC) Thanks for your tip, I have used RODBC before to read data from MSAccess and MSExcel files, but never I imagined it could work for non-database files such as csv. I will check the RODBC documentation. Best Regards, Jose Lozano ------------------------------------------ Jose E. Lozano Alonso Observatorio de Salud P?blica.
