MSDFS redirection WinXP SP2
I am currently having problems accesing our samba msdfs shares from Windows XP SP2, Windows 2000 and WinXP SP1 seem unaffected. I have attached the smb.conf and the exports files that define the shares. Running ethereal on the different clients seems to point to the fact that XP SP2 no longer seems to be using the netbios-ssn (139) port. for GET_D...

Hi all I'm trying to set up dfs for (among other things) profiles (i don't know if this is a good example, but that is out of the scope of my current question) I've been following these instructions: http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/msdfs.html http://us.generation-nt.com/answer/samba-domain-dfs-samba-4-help-209347402.html as well as the hints given in the thread *'Samba4 DFS Support'* on this list My current setup is as follows Win7 client joined to domain stp4.stp.internal *2 DCs:* * *samba4-2* ** samba4-3* both with DNS...

msdfs root = yes is the default???
Why is that when you create a share, the default is 'msdfs root = yes'? Also, why is that a share that is set 'msdfs root = yes' -- or, rather, a share that does /not/ set 'msdfs root = no' -- advertises that it is a DFS root to the Linux CIFS client, /even /when 'host msdfs = no'? This sounds like A) a bug (ignoring 'host...

msdfs proxy question
Hi List, I am struggling a little bit with the msdfs proxy parameter. I want the samba server as a kind of a bridge between two networks, that the samba server only shares some of the shares provided by our file server to a second network. I don't want the samba srv to be a gw or give the clients a route to the internal network, because it is a...

Hi, After some experiment with MSDFS on Samba I have seen this problems and I don't know if this are caused by my possible wrong configuration or if are "feature" of MSDFS: -as described into the documentation I compiled a Samba version with --with-msdfs and this smb.conf (server 172.26.11.236). Using MSDFS
...as shown below. I have 2 Samba servers (SMB1 and SMB2). I set up the DFS share on SMB1 per these instructions and want to share the Public share from SMB2 through DFS on SMB1. 1. root# cd /export/dfsroot 2. root# chown root /export/dfsroot 3. root# chmod 755 /export/dfsroot 4. root# ln -s msdfs:storageA\\shareA linka 5. root# ln -s msdfs:serverB\\share,serverC\\share linkb I think the 5th line would be: ln -s msdfs:smb2\\public I'm totally confused about what the 4th line is trying to get me to do. I assume "storageA" is SMB1 and shareA is the DFS share, and the symb...

Also, if one of the servers was to go down for a bit, the other two could still handle logons and some of the directories would be available. MSDFS on [homes] share for two samba servers
...m\loginname) for unification and central acces - but because the lower speed link between both localities there is need to locate homedirs: -- for locality A - on server A on that locality -- for locality B - on server B on that locality fine, thats are requirements. So I have decided to use MSDFS in combination with [homes] in this way: - on server A (which will acts as "files.example.com") there will be homedirs MSDFS links for users on locality B pointed to their real homedirs on server B (with classic symlink syntax "user_on_locality_B" -> "msdfs:IP_of_ser...

msdfs proxy and subfolders
Hello, everyone, I'm seeing some inconsistent behavior across SMB clients when configuring shares using the "msdfs proxy" parameter, and was hoping to get some advice from the community on this. My issue is that various SMB clients seem to behave differently when this parameter is pointed as a path that includes a sub-folder under the root share. So, given the following share configuration: [share1]...

preexec and msdfs proxy
One more time: root preexec does: run a command or script if the user hit the share. Now with msdfs proxy it need to be run on the linked host that carries the share. So you are better to set root preexec on the share of the linked host. I think there is no other way. Server1 [sharepointtoserver2] msdfs root=yes msdfs proxy =\server2\shareonserver2 Server2 [shareonserver2] Root preexec=..........

msdfs
Hello, Last week I submitted a problem with msdfs on samba. I didn't receive any reaction. I've also tried the samba-cvs version but this has also problems. We really like to use msdfs from samba, because we want to put all our homedirectories ( more than 4000 ) in one dfsroot. This is not possible with Microsoft's dfs because this...

msdfs: links to shares not visible/accessible in dfs root
