How do tzdata changes get made?
...rently being drafted. It will (most likely) change the end data of dst by pushing it out ~3 weeks. My question; AFAIK CentOS/whitebox/et. al. should not make any changes to tzdata - it is an upstream issue, but how do we ensure that 'upstream' find out about things like this? Regards, MrKiwi.

rpmforge repo for centos5
Hi, I just downloaded and installed the rpmforge-release rpm file for centos5. Ftp isn't working here, so it went http, but the http mirrors are giving me error 11, connections refused. Is this a problem with the particular mirror? Also, how do i query a specific repo to find out what packages it contains? Thanks. Dave.

Strange behaviour from http install

I imagine it is some kind of fuzzy logic to do its best to recover from paths that are one folder too short/long, or maybe to make sure it is installing the highest version numbered folder? MrKiwi

This firewall rule will self-destruct
Ok, I have a challenge - get two services working over a single port. (!) Sometimes it's a web service, sometimes it's a VNC service. Here's what I had in mind: 1) Server is normally a webserver listening on port 80, and normally has the following rules active: # iptables -A INPUT -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT # iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -j MASQUERADE 2)

unattended install via nfs
Hello, Does anyone have a guide for setting up an nfs server for unattended deployment of centos5? Basically what i want to do is boot a system from CD media, pass a boot parameter nfs, and ks= options then walk away, the box goes out to the nfs server, finds the kickstart file, reads, and does it. I've got several machines and i'd rather not do manual installs. Thanks. Dave.

Dual boot box: WinXP & CentOS 5: Impossible to restore WinXP?
We rarely use M$ Windows, but I let my daughter surf pbskids.org while using Windows and a Trojan Horse modified or deleted the user32.dll file. I found the instructions on the Microsoft Support web site, and it would be very easy for me to expand a new copy of user32.dll if I could get the MS WinXP CD to work. It boots OK, I press a key so it will search hardware and it then has hard drive

How to connect to a Windows PC in LAN
Hi I am a new bee to Linux in general. Please accept my apologies if the question is not appropriate. I have a LAN with 2 computers: One is CentOS and one is Windows XP. I am trying to transfer file between 2 computers using LAN. Can you please tell me how to do it? I have tried Samba from the Applications menu. Add a directory in there. Set it to Read only and Allow access to everyone. I

New lists
Think of this as a motion as one might move at a meeting. Discussion and refinement are in order. I don't understand the current rationale for a single CentOS users' list; probably in times past it was sensible, but I think the time has come for splitting the list by release. I'm speaking from my own perspective, but I'm sure others have similar stories. How many users use

Turn an ext2 filesystem into a component of a mirrored RAID?
We have a CentOS 3 server with about 300GB of data on an ext2 filesystem that we need to mirror onto a new drive, which we're then going to pull out and put into a second server. A straight disk-to-disk copy (with rsync, tar, or "cp -a" doesn't much matter) manages about 75MB per minute, which would take almost three days, and the system gets very sluggish while such a copy is
