...alled Centos 4.1 and everything was fine running kernel-smp-2.6.9-11.EL. However when I upated to Centos 4.2 I have run into problems. Namely after a finite amount of disk traffic the system locks completely up. On the monitor console I get message after message from the MPT Fusion SCSI driver mptscsih indicating that there was a failure and that an "ABORT was successful". Unfortunately I don't have the exact message, but I have tracked the problem to kernel-smp-2.6.9-22.0.1.EL. Since I updated from 4.1 I still had the smp-2.6.9-11 kernel around and as long as I boot into kernel...

I think the panic is the consequence of drive write failure. So the actual problem is before the panic call trace. I'd post the entire dmesg somewhere wrap safe (either you mail agent or the forum is hard wrapping and is a pain to read). What do you get for smartctl -x <dev> In the meantime check or replace cables, usually it's the connectors that are faulty not the cable itself.

...ll, I have a Opteron-machine with the MPT SCSI-controller (Symbios 53c1030). At least in i386-mode, mkinitrd does not seem to build a usable initrd for 2.6.13.x (.3 tested) with this kernel. With 2.6.12.6 it works fine. I have not tested this in x86_64 -mode yet. The symptom is that mptbase and mptscsih load, but mptscsih does not discover any controllers nor drives, and things like Booting the kernel.
