can't "yum install mplayer" : no libmpcdec.so.3 available
Just upgraded to 5.4 yesterday morning. (Kudos to those who did that!) That's probably irrelevant to this problem: "yum install mplayer" fails. Here's what happens: ================================================== # yum install mplayer Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, filter-data, kernel-module, keys, kmod, list- : data, merge-conf, security, upgrade-helper,

Making the video plugin + patched MPlayer work with other backends
Hi, I'm wondering how I can make my patched up mplayer work with other MPlayer frontends, such as mplayer-plugin, GMPlayer, SMPlayer and KMPlayer. When I play a video using mplayer normally with: mplayer video.ext, It detects the compiz video output and works fine, however when it is called from other players (AFAIK, it just creates a window then asks mplayer to display in it) with mplayer

mplayer
We recently installed CentOS 7 from DVD.? Our install selection was the GNOME desktop option. yum update yielded about 465 megabytes of updates all of which were successful with no warnings.? The multi media option was not chosen because KDE was listed. GNOME was not apparent in the software list for the multi media workstation install. Google searches led us to instructions for installing

New addition to FAQ
Greetings, I was on IRC about 7 hours ago and suggested that the FAQ be updated slightly. Rather than sit on my ass and complain I figured I'd ask a few people, and see if the idea was worth the time. Here's what Ive started with: http://www.dimension.net.nz/theora.html I'll be adding to it over the next 24 hours - mostly in the area of Playback and Encoding. Just threw it together

Mplayer and VDPAU
Does anyone here know if the mplayer from rpmfusion (mplayer-1.0-0.41.svn20090711.el5.rf) was compiled with VDPAU support? I've looked on the mplayer web site and it says you can use vdpau, but it doesn't say HOW. Would that be with something like "-vo vdpau" ?? Thanks! -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- .---- Fred Smith /

Set default MPlayer -vo?
Hi, I'm running CentOS 4.3 with the rpmforge and kbs repos enabled. I just installed MPlayer and tried it. It has a small problem. When I want to view myfile.wmv, Mplayer displays the following error message: "Error opening/initialising the selected video_out (-vo) device." So I opened a console, took a peek at the various options (mplayer -vo help), and then the movie worked

Gents, I can compile mplayer on centos 4.5 AMD 64 in native 64 bit mode and it plays the dvd, and also compile for 32 bit mode "gcc -m32" on it also plays the dvd. "mplayer dvd://1". I can compile mplayer on centos 5 AMD 64 in native 64 bit mode and it plays the dvd. However, when I compile in 32 bit on AMD 64 centos 5 I cannot play the dvd. I get: Playing dvd://1 File

Encoding from fifo's
Hello, I'm new to the list, so if this is an FAQ, please point me to the relevant docs. I'm playing with Theora, to see what kind of quality I can expect (I realise its not for production use yet). I've download the source from CVS, and got it to build, with the example encoder and player. While trying to find something to serve as a good source of input, I decided I'd use a
