Lock session vs. End session
In security terms, is there any difference between ending a session (logout of

ls : not UTF-8 compliant?
Sorry bugging you for this simple command.
ls command displays question marks for the local characters (ones not
included in 8859-1 space) in filenames.
ie.
[root at server aa]# touch ?arp
[root at server aa]# ls
??arp
[root at server aa]# ls -b #for octal escapes
\303\247arp
[root at server aa]#
However, ls|less, ls|more or vi <directory name> all display filename

Encrypted remote backup?
Can anyone recommend a commercial off site remote backup service with a
client (preferably FOSS) for CentOS 5, preferably that allows encryption
of the data being backed up?
Small scale, I'm primarily looking to just back up my mail folder on my
server.
I've been backing it up to local hd via rsync but that drive just died,
I'd prefer to have it backed up to somewhere more stable

...sue sending the
same file streamed to xmms through a .m3u file.
Thanks for any suggestions.
My plugger 4.0 was compiled on (fully patched) RH8 if that matters - and
ogg123 is the one that shipped with RH8, the .ogg audio files were
created with oggenc on RH8 from cdrom.

Ajax.Request abort question
im using an Ajax.Request to hit a java servlet and do some processing.
during this time, if the user feels the process is taking too long, he/she
can hit a cancel button to kill the request... by calling the

To upgrade or not
My laptop is a Thinkpad T20 running CentOS 5.1
The reason it is running CentOS at all is because Fedora Core 6 was
workable on it, but Fedora 8 was a complete dog.
Anyway - with all the new desktop stuff in CentOS 5.2 I'm wondering if I
would be happier just leaving it at 5.1 rather than letting it update to
5.2.
Will 5.1 continue to get security fixes if I leave it at 5.1 or do I

Effect.SlideDown/Up() and HTML issues
Hello,
I''m hoping this is the right place to ask these kind of questions. If not,
please excuse me. Anyway, the problem I''m having is that I have a HTML table
showing some tabular data and I want to use Effect.SlideDown/Up to allow the
user to interactively show "details" for each item (<tr><td> etc) in that
list.
I''ll do some pseudo-code for

Dovecot password policy
Is there a way to configure Dovecot to perhaps filter/enforce which passwords are accepted before authenticating?
Ie: Reject immediately (without a database lookup) if password is not X characters in length?
