Exactaly, I would recommend the mod_mp3 project for something like that.
http://media.tangent.org/
They are doing almost exactaly what sound like you are looking for. There
is also the project 'ampache' that takes this one step further and adds a
MySQL database backend to a PHP front.

Alternatively you can open the following url in your windows media player.

I have tried 3 streaming solutions(icecast2, Apache::mp3, mod_mp3) but
none of them can successfully stream ogg files to windows media
player.(All of them work well with winamp).
Thanks a lot for reading this,

...x machine, this would
probably be using xmms, on a Windows machine it seems WinAmp is one
common player. I am new to both Apache and html. I have tried to
google on this, and specifically google the xiph.org archives. I have
tried three ways: linking to the file like any other in Apache, via
the mod_mp3 module for Apache, and via a python script web-server
called Edna.
Nothing does what I want. Edna was easy to set up and use. When I go
to my own edna web page, xmms opens and streams radio.ogg just fine,
but there is no seek control displayed, so I can't move forward in the
file to the curr...

need help/ideas please, oh and answers
Hi Folks: I have had need to write a streamer and scripts to stream
audio content on demand. Basically a person browses through a
directory tree and selects a file to listen to at which point a stream
is created and pushed to the listener through the icecast server.
My questions start with is there anyway in the server to set a
variable to kill/terminate a source when it has no listener

if you're not live encoding , icecast prolly still has performance
advantages over other on-demand streamers ( mod_mp3 for apache ,etc )..
but icecast also supports ogg vorbis which is a superior audio format on a
number of measures .

solaris success??
...t 1.3.10 is the server i'm running, but its ices 0.1 that gives
me a segfault under solaris. it works just fine on my linux box. ices
0.2 doesn't segfault, but it seems to overrun the server (if that
makes any sense), it plays a 3 minute file in seconds.
maybe i'll have to switch to mod_mp3 for my solaris boxes.

solaris success??
Has anyone been successful getting an icecast webcast going under
Solaris? I have tried several times using different versions of
icecast, ices, shout and solaris, but have never been able to get it
working without seg. faults, or glitching, or other problems.

playlist streams
Hello again
No replies regarding memory requirements!
I have an idea to provide 1000's of streams without the requirement of
100's of source PC's, and perhaps without even requiring Icecast at all.
But I'm not sure if this will work.
We will have thousands of 24 hour playlists generated everyday by
software I'm developing. If we encode all our audio files at 32kb/s,
could
