Moaning dog...
Here's one for you phone people.... An elderly lady phoned her telephone company to report that her telephone failed to ring when her friends called - and that on the few occasions when it did ring, her pet dog always moaned right before the phone rang. The telephone repairman proceeded to the scene, curious to see this psychic dog or senile elderly lady. He climbed a nearby telephone pole, hooked in his test set, and dialed the subscriber's house. The phone didn't ring right away, but then the dog moaned lo...

Google Earth - displays nothing, moans about graphics card
I have installed Google Earth under wine 0.9.5, using winetools 0.9jo-III. I believe it is going quite well - it tells me I have an unrecognised graphics card and asks me to log in when the form appears. The program appears and, since installing the mozilla ActiveX , just sits there with nothing showing in the main display area. I am wondering if it is possible for me to get any further. --

samba 3 b3 and nt accounts
...y a new machine to the domain. With the Samba user however I log onto the machine now and no longer have my admin rights to change settings :c( (I hate this quirk of xp/2k it's almost enough reason to fire the darn thing out of a real big cannon but sadly windows is here to stay *gripe gripe moan moan*) As the same user though I am able to log a machine into the domain... which means it does think I'm a domain admin. Anyways anyone got ideas on this issue? Any more info I could post to help? Very irritating problem... Matt D.

validates_presence_of
I am just going through the book and I come across a problem with the code in the app/models: validates_format_of :image_url, :with => %r{^http:.+\.(gif|jpg|png)$}i, :message => "must be a URL for a GIF, JPG, or PNG image" It seems to moan when it''s empty even though I removed :image_url from validates_presence_of. How should I make it optional? Altering the regex? Btw I have the same sort of problem with example code for the price example. I want it optional unless I used validates_presence_of. Isn''t that sensible...

[PATCH V4 5/6] virtio: introduce a mdev based transport
...asy way for to test > its presence or do you mean doing sanity testing on existence of the > mandatory ops that provided by the device? What I meant was something like: features = ops->get_mdev_features(mdev); if (features & VIRTIO_MDEV_F_VERSION_1) vm_dev->version = 1; else //moan about missing support for version 1 Can there be class id specific extra features, or is this only for core features? If the latter, maybe also do something like supported_features = ORED_LIST_OF_FEATURES; if (features & ~supported_features) //moan about extra feature bits > > >...

Ugh on new bios.
Just so others know. On my EVGA motherboard the option to boot removable media didn't work on my usb flash drive with syslinux on it. Yesterday I tried updating the version of syslinux and seeing if that would wok. Frustrated with it not working I moaned and groaned and my brother decided to look for options in the bios that I might have missed. He couldn't find anything. But I decided to look at the bios just a little more and wala. Under the regular hard drive options I found my USB flash disk listed. Who would have guessed that they would...

odd issue with permisions
...set, but that's just a kludge. It shouldn't > matter that the GROUP permissions are if the USER permissions allow > access and the file is owned by the current user. Hi, no one on this list gets paid to help, you certainly haven't paid anyone for support, so you have no right to moan about not getting help within 24hrs. The problem is that it works for myself, but I am in a domain and may in fact be using the group as well, I would need to do more testing to see if this is the case, so it needs to go on my to-do list, which is lengthy. You are using a standalone server, so...

undefined method `generate_token'
...ws me to check for a user, and whether they already have registered. If they have, the invitation is not sent, and a flash message is printed. If the email does not exist, the invite count (starts at 5) decrements until you have none left. When i click invite, i get the error above. It''s moaning about this line: @invitation.sender = @user i tied replacing @user with user, but still no use.. def create @invitation = Invitation.new(params[:invitation]) @invitation.sender = @user if @invitation.save flash[:notice] = "Thanks - Invitation sent successfully."...

AppDB Voting System Wierdness
...nt versions of it. The combined votes of all the "versions" would be 41, which I think serves to highlight how much a game like this would be nice to get working proberly on wine. Instead its only sitting at a low 17. Doesn't this seem a bit wrong? P.S This could be me just having a moan because the only reason I still use windows is because of my love of CoH. :P

plotrix and prettyR
...esponse to a request. prettyR has finally learned how to display SPSS value labels in the xtab and brkdn functions if they are there. I would like to know if anyone finds a problem with this feature as it took some time to pick the low-hanging bugs out of it. Remember, it is your whingeing and moaning that have helped to make these packages what they are today. Jim

AVM B1 and PTP mode
Hi ! I've fetched a spare AVM B1 card from the cellar, and installed it. After "modprobe b1pci" I did "capiinit" and capiinit moaned about a missing t1.b4. So I search the web and found one at http://www.avm.de/ftp/cardware/b1/x_misc/ddi/. When I now look at the controller, I finally see p2p-mode: # cat /proc/capi/controllers/1 name b1pciv4-a400 io 0xa400 irq 5 membase...

Problem with '#' key recognition
...ise the '#' key being pressed to acknowledge an incoming call from a queue. No matter how many times I press the key to acknowledge, the Asterisk server acts as if I have not. I have installed the ztdummy module, and it seems that Asterisk is picking it up OK (mainly since it's not moaning about permissions for IAX timing any more). I am using the Asterisk version that is packaged in Debian Stable (Asterisk 1.0.7-BRIstuffed-0.2.0-RC7k) and the call that goes out expecting a '#' goes over an IAX provider to a UK mobile/landline. I have Googled on the subject but can...

Files with / in their name....
...site to site nightly rsync between two boxes using ssh - all of the setup steps work and everything can talk nicely etc. However, the users unfortunately have lots of files with / in the filename (eg 21/08/08.ppt etc.) - when I try and run rsync on the content of these folders rsync understandably moans about the filenames being invalid (ie it thinks they are folder seperators rather than filenames) and stops. Is there a way I can get rsync to 'blindly' synch these files and ignore the / in the filename? I would just say to the clients to rename said files but there are a whold bunch of t...

SMS 2003 and Samba
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has played with Microsoft's SMS 2003? I've got a Samba 3 PDC using an LDAP backend, and a Windows 2003 server running SMS 2003. The SMS 2003 setup moans that it cannot verify the service account in the domain. Its reasons are it cannot connect to the domain as either the user account does not have access to the domain or the domain controller is down. I know the PDC is up and running and I have logged in as root to prove that I have full access....

Sharing GDI printers
Hi guys, Can someone explain why sharing a GDI printer (think Laserjet 1000/1005/1020 for example) is so unreliable? I'm not moaning about Samba - I just want to understand. I have seen this several times. I get the printer working fine under Linux, then print to it through Samba, also fine. But then I get a call a day later "we can't print" and when I get there the printer is paused (an no user has the privs...
