how to extract options for a function call
...ANN")
in the optim function.
So I would like to have a vector with
c("Nelder-Mead", "BFGS", "CG", "L-BFGS-B", "SANN")
Or for instance the 'method' in the dist function can be supplied with
euclidian,maximum,manhatten, canberra,binary,minkowski.
Is there someway to extract this so I would have a vector with
c("euclidian","maximum","manhatten", "canberra","binary","minkowski").
Thanks

mahalanobis distance
Is there a function that calculate the mahalanobis distance in R .
The dist function calculates "euclidean"', '"maximum"', '"manhattan"',
'"canberra"',
'"binary"' or '"minkowski"'.
Thanks ../Murli

Config file semantics.
Personally, I find that indenting config files by 3 spaces has a lot of
advantages to indenting them by 4 spaces although conventional wisdom
might suggest otherwise. Who's with me on this?

function gdist, dist and vegdist in mvpart
...This works fine. Now I would like to use other dissimilarity measures as
can be found in the function dist (STATS) or vegdist (VEGAN).
De'Ath notes that gdist should be interchangeable with dist - but I
receive following error message:

data=ba12, xv="p")

redes pathfinder
Estimados compañeros estoy con un trabajo sobre redes pathfinder y
quería saber si conocéis alguna librería o función para dada la matriz
de proximidades sacar la matriz de la red pathfinder.
Un cordial saludo y un mejor año 2013.

about arguments in "bclust"
Hi All,
Just want to make sure, in function "bclust", do the following argument
only have one option?
argument "dist.method" has one option "Euclidian";
argument "hclust.method" has one option "average";
argument "base.method" has one option "kmeans".
Thank you!

buglet in dist() ?
the first line of dist() says
if (!is.na(pmatch(method, "euclidian")))
shouldn't that be "euclidean" ?

method default for hclust function
I could not figure out what was the default when I ran hclust() without specifying the method.
For example:
I just have a code like:
hclust(dist(data))
Any input would be appreciated:)

nlme: spatial autocorrelation on a sphere
I have spatial data on a sphere (the Earth) for which I would like to run an gls model assuming that the errors are autcorrelated, i.e. including a corSpatial correlation in the model specification.
In this case the distance metric should be calculated on the sphere, therefore metric = "euclidean" in (for example) corSpher would be incorrect.
I would be grateful for help on how to
