Mmm, I (respectfully) disagree. One of the unstated objectives of mechanisms
like this list is to evangelize the platform. Obviously, we all want it to
do well. You can only do that by creating mindshare. You create mindshare by
winning people over. You win people over in a technical context by helping
them wrap their heads around the concept and implement it. Sometimes, this
involves hand-holding, as I do with my boss, my boss' boss etc every day.

AMD Barcelona Technical Training Opportunities for SW Developers - LA Area - Week of March 10
...training opportunities focused on our recently released quad-core
processor, Barcelona. Barcelona brings to market key technology changes
that can be exploited and tuned for performance from the operating
system, compiler, and application layers.
AMD has been working with our training partner, Mindshare, to create and
tune their AMD Processor Architecture class and PC Virtualization class
to cover the changes with Barcelona. Their instructors have been working
side by side with AMD to prepare and participate in the Barcelona

Why RSpec?
I like Shoulda. Sometimes I like plain old Test::Unit. Cucumber
gives me a different thought process.
I''d just like to hear some thoughts on why RSpec? What does it buy me
that I can''t get with Shoulda? I just can''t seem to think in RSpec.
Where is there a good example of RSpec tests that will help me grasp
the right path?
Thanks!

I think with porting of content, main focus should be on new content.
If we create the complete documentation procedure i.e. automating this
long procedure ---->
writing content in markup language -> pull request -> discussion ->

Re: Slashdot: "Could Microsoft buy Red Hat?" -- this is a joke made by the clueless
...largest collection if GPL-centric projects.
Red Hat, much like the Cygnus entity it engulfed even when it was much smaller than Cygnus at the time, has made their entire software focus on GPL to the anal power.
Red Hat knows should they ever change from that, they will lose everything -- especially mindshare.

I think that optionally supporting a an APR interface would not be a bad
idea of obscure platforms, but LLVM should not depend on it. I think that

Maybe eat your own dog food. Convert your existing phone system to Asterisk
and make sure all of the consultants have a hard phone or a SIP phone at
home so they can get calls at home. Then they might get excited about it.
This way, you build support and mindshare internally and get experience all
at the same time.

Re: Vote For CentOS :) -- at this point, call the FSF ...
...xists.
Red Hat's "goodwill" severely crippled their ability to deal with
some companies who have no problem with trashing their name.
I don't think you realize that Microsoft could have flooded the
market with an ultra-crappy "Red Hat(R) Linux" that would have
destroyed mindshare overnight.
Sun was basically on their way to doing it too, which pissed a
lot of us off. Because of Sun and others, Red Hat had to
vehemetly defend their trademark to the anal power, and projects
like CentOS are stuck with dealing with that as a result.
Red Hat is the _only_ major commercial Li...

...up and running quickly on multiple platforms, and
if the dependence issue becomes a problem later when LLVM becomes more
popular, then come back and replace the [insert-lib-here]'s code. The point
is to get LLVM up and running *now*, and get it out in the world so it'll
start gathering mindshare, and more developers.
Looking at Ocaml as an example, which is *roughly* equivalent to what LLVM is
doing (bytecode compiler, native code compiler, virtual machine), except they
built it for a specific language, they have numerous dependencies on other
libs (curses, dbm, tcl, tk, etc).

We started work on R in the early '90s. At the time
decent Lisp implementations required much more resources
than our target machines had. We therefore wrote a small

RAIDZ(2) expansion?
I skimmed the archives and found a thread from July earlier this year
about RAIDZ expansion. Not adding more RAIDZ stripes to a pool, but
adding more drives to the stripe itself. I''m wondering if an RFE has
been submitted for this and if any progress has been made, or is
expected? I find myself out of space on my current RAID5 setup and
would love to flip over to a ZFS raidz2 solution

[LLVMdev] To APR Or Not To APR. That is the question.
Folks,
I'm bringing the APR (Apache Portable Runtime) up for consideration as
the implementation of lib/System again. For those not familiar with it,
APR is the portability library used by the Apache Group and others in
open source projects such as HTTPD and Subversion. While its relatively
new, it is quickly gaining mind share and it provides lots of features
and supports numerous platforms
