L2ARC in clusters
...p the ssd''s which are local to the other node.
L2ARC doesn''t contain any data which is critical to pool so it doesn''t
have to be shared between node. SLOG would be a whole different story
and generally it wouldn''t be possible. But L2ARC should be.

ZFS and encryption
Hello zfs-discuss,
I wonder if ZFS will be able to take any advantage of Niagara''s
built-in crypto?

flowadm -i 1 - shows only first flow

Is there a reason why only first flow is displayed?
If one wants stats for only one flow one can specify it... shouldn''t all
flow stats be displayed if not flow is specified?

zpool create -f not applicable to hot spares
...pool command will complain that
there is UFS file system on D.
workaround: create a test pool with -f on D and E, destroy it and
that create first pool with D and E as hotspares.
I''ve tested it on s10u3 + patches - can someone confirm it on latest
nv?

snapdir visable recursively throughout a dataset
Is there an existing RFE for, what I''ll wrongly call, "recursively visable snapshots"? That is, .zfs in directories other than the dataset root.
Frankly, I don''t need it available in all directories, although it''d be nice, but I do have a need for making it visiable 1 dir down from the dataset root. The problem is that while ZFS and Zones work smoothly

# devices in raidz.
for s10u2, documentation recommends 3 to 9 devices in raidz. what is the
basis for this recommendation? i assume it is performance and not failure
resilience, but i am just guessing... [i know, recommendation was intended
for people who know their raid cold, so it needed no further explanation]
thanks... oz

Strange performance loss
I''m moving some data off an old machine to something reasonably new.
Normally, the new machine performs better, but I have one case just now
where the new system is terribly slow.
Old machine - V880 (Solaris 8) with SVM raid-5:
# ptime du -kds foo
15043722 foo
real 6.955
user 0.964
sys 5.492
And now the new machine - T5140 (latest Solaris 10) with ZFS

zfs destroy - destroying a snapshot
...snapshot is provided as an argument
zfs destroy wouldn''t actually destroy it.
That way it would be much safer to write scripts.
What do you think?
I can implement it and send diffs - should be really simple.

Pool import with failed ZIL device now possible ?
Hello list,
someone (actually neil perrin (CC)) mentioned in this thread:

that is should be possible to import a pool with failed log devices

Norco''s new storage appliance
Hey all,
Has anyone else noticed Norco''s recently-announced DS-520 and thought
ZFS-ish thoughts? It''s a five-SATA, Celeron-based desktop NAS that ships
without an OS.

What practical impact is a 32-bit processor going to have on a ZFS
system? (I know this relies on speculation, but) Might anyone know

StorageTek 2540 performance radically changed
Today I updated the firmware on my StorageTek 2540 to the latest

how to relocate a disk
Hi,
I''d like to move a disk from one controller to another. This disk is
part of a mirror in a zfs pool. How can one do this without having to
export/import the pool or reboot the system?
I tried taking it offline and online again, but then zpool says the disk
is unavailable. Trying a zpool replace didn''t work because it complains
that the "new" disk is part of a

can Dtrace be used for the error injection?
Hi,
is it somehow possible to use Dtrace for error injection in a kernel module?
Something like changing:
- function return value
- value of a register
If not, can it be implemented?
I can do that via kmdb, but I need Dtrace for the time synchronization
- chill() action.
I can not combine Dtrace & kmdb:
dtrace: failed to initialize dtrace: DTrace cannot be used when kernel

How to know the recordsize of a file
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I would like to know the blocksize of a particular file. I know the
blocksize for a particular file is decided at creation time, in fuction
of the write size done and the recordsize property of the dataset.
How can I access that information?. Some zdb magic?.

pool space reservation
What is a use case of setting a reservation on the base pool object?
Say I have a pool of 3 100GB drives dynamic striped (pool size of 300GB), and I set the reservation to 200GB. I don''t see any commands that let me ever reduce a pool''s size, so how is the 200GB reservation used?
Related question: is there a plan in the future to allow me to replace the 3 100GB drives with 2

" -v Print verbose information about the stream and
the time required to perform the receive.

However when using -v option I only get:
receiving full stream of p6/d5212 at r1 into nfs-s5-s8/d5212 at r1
Or maybe it''s due to I pipe send to recv so it''s harder to estimate?

is zpool export/import | faster than rsync or cp
I need to move data from one zpool to another, lock stock and
barrel,
Being from linux background my instinct was to use rsync. But then I
remembered seeing the `export/import options in man zpool.. And I''ve
seen mention of them here too, but didn''t pay attention since I''d
noticed no need yet.
Now I''m wondering if the export/import sub commands might not be
