Hello, I am using kernel version 2.4.7-10 I upgraded one of the ext2 partition to ext3. the partitions are nearly empty. I ran a program to create empty files, having names in lexicographical order. The time taken to create empty files (100 .. 100000) is same on an ext2 partition and a ext3 partition. Can anyone pls. tell me why there is no difference in the time taken. Is the htree algo.

I do not have a particularly high opinion of reiserfs reliability, but it normally appears to fail in a all-or-nothing way (ie filesystem unusable) rather than some files going corrupt or missing, so I can work round that with a backup regime. I'm looking at running an ext3 filesystem on top of a loopback AES encrypted device, which in turn is on top of a raw partition (so no other things in the way that should be reordering writes). Are there likely to be any strange issues with using ext3 in this way? The openssl rpm needs to be installed on the system *before* the openssh-server rpm is installed. This is because the openssh-server's post script does the host key generation. As it is now, the command rpm -U openss* intended to install openssh* and openssl* will report that the host key generation failed.
