Thinking about switching from courier-imap to Dovecot: 2 simple questions
...;m using RHEL4 and since the dovecot RPM is present in the main repository, I'm thinking about switching from courier-imap (with whom I've got trouble to update) to Dovecot. Here are two questions about Dovecot (google didn't answer me): 1. Is it possible for dovecot to use the bind mecanism against ldap for authentification purpose. My main concern is to avoid the clear-text password in the dovecot-ldap.conf file. With courier-imap, the process simply bind to the ldap tree with the users's supplied login/password. No need for a special authentification purpose user. 2. Does i...

Large Roaming profiles
Hi, I have large size Roaming profiles in Win2k and Samba. Samba 2.2.2 is acting as a PDC. Does Win2k load all the files from scratch from the samba server everytime a user log in? Or does Win2k or Samba provides some sort of diff mecanism, so that only modified files are loaded from the Samba server(to speed think up)? Helps!!!!! Rails database connection guru needed!!!!!!!
...s" from the class variable @@defined_connection and @@active_connections. Actually it does not do anything to disconnect the actually connection, So we wonder will it lead to a memory leak of the ruby-rails and the connected database???? Is there anything we miss that make us misunderstand the mecanism of connection and reconnection???? Question B inside the same methode of a controller, like: www.myrails.com/mycontroller/mymethode1. It is possible to change the database, because the example give on the http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/pages/HowtoUseMultipleDatabases the basic idea is to chang...

Server-side scripting when SIP phones register
Hi, Some IP Phones (Aastra) are able to send a custom HTTP request just after registration completion. Using this, it is possible to update phone's screen with messages like "Do Not Disturb" or "Forwarded To VM". RFC 3680 (http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc3680.html) provides a mecanism to support these interactions. To my knowledge, this RFC is not implemented yet in Asterisk. Has someone found a workaround to that some scripting could be run whenever a SIP phones registers ? Regards -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... seeking a developper documentation for jbd and ext3
Hi, I am a student in computer science and I develop a program that tries to explain other students the mecanisms of the ext3 filesystem : we show the content of each structure and explain what it means. But I was unable to find a developper documentation for the jounalizing functionality (jbd). Could you please tell me where can I find one ? ( in english or in french ) Also a documentation for the ext3 fil...

Is using dahdi_genconf_parameters recommended to configure dahdi ?
Hi, I've just discovered that dahdi_genconf could create configuration files reading a single genconf_parameter file. 1. Is using dahdi_genconf recommended to configure dahdi or is it a helpful tool for specific devices or installation processes ? 2. If not, is there a custom mecanism that would prevent hand-edited files to be written over by dahdi_genconf (you can obviously remove execution rights to dahdi_genconf but is there something better) ? If yes, is it normal that /etc/dahdi wouldn't contain any example of genconf_parameter file (in my setup, I could find one in /us...

templating, overide replace etc
...while i am at it, could we have alias to false/true by yes/no it would be more readable and intuitive replace => yes / replace => true :) - source : if you put multiple source it take the first on available this allow great simplicity to setup override, does template () support the same mecanism (multiple files, take the first one available ) ? those two would be handy. If they does not i will fill a feature request in track i guess ? -- Cordialement, Ghislain _______________________________________________ Puppet-users mailing list Puppet-users@madstop.com https://mail.madstop.com/...

Keyframes
Hi all, First of all a big thank you for your work. I would like to know what is (could be) the best (optimal in a psnr and/or subjectivity sense) maximum distance between keyframes or is theora using a good heuristic change scene detection mecanism? Does it really matter to theora as with mpeg4 part2/10? Thank you and keep up the good work -- Josh

Asterisk and Fax part 2
Hello, I've been trying to setup a Fax2Email mecanism on my Asterisk box. I have been using the following: 1) An incoming IAX line on Unlimitel (Im not even sure if it's worth mentionning the provider, but I do just in case) 2) NVBackGroundDetect from Newman Telecom 3) The following extension to test: exten => fax,1,SetVar(FAXFILE=/var/spo...

Syslinux/Extlinux chain : Unexpected change of Extlinux configuration folder after reboot
...ux -i with the wanted configuration folder, as the first time, all the following reboots finally use the wanted linux image. How to prevent unwanted change in partition bootsector between reboot ? Does syslinux/extlinux bootloader overwrite these values during boot ? Is there a bootsector recovery mecanism which restore an old bootsector ? Best regards, Julien Vilz

Re: Numbers behind "df" and "tune2fs"
OK. Thanks for the journal information. I thought tune2fs -l and dumpe2fs were the same. In reality it's almost the same but not entirely ^^ I hear you about all the internal mecanisms that make the FS working or give it some features, and I do understand that it takes some place on the disk. However what I don't understand is why the number given in the "available column" is called "available" if it's not really the case and we have to remove some ot...

cross-compiling for windows with linux
Dear List, I am (still) trying to use the makefile advertised in R-News (the Makefile is a wrapper around other tools). When I try to build a package using the (fairly recent) 'install.R' mecanism, the output leaves me not so confident about the the usability of the pack built for Windows (I am currently unable to verify it): ---------- Making package splicegear ------------ installing inst files adding build stamp to DESCRIPTION installing R files save image /home/laurent/these/R/R...

samba and pam
Since I now have something which at least pretends to work, I suppose an announcement is in order. Those among you who track samba development are probably aware that samba 1.9.18p4 includes support for synchronising a unix database when changing an SMB password. I'm currently working on a PAM module which will provide similar functionality for all applications compiled with PAM support:

ggplot adjust two y-axis
Hi, I don't know the axis mecanism well enough in ggplot but using the original barplot function you can add an axis on the right using the axis function. Here is an example: test <- as.table(matrix(c(2,10,3,11), 2,2)) barplot(test, beside = TRUE, col = scales::brewer_pal(palette = 1)(2)) axis(4, at = c(0, 5, 10), labels = c(...

help interpreting a model summary
Hello, I am all new here. Thanks for the job done, R really helped me in my thesis lately. However, I am kind of new in statistics, coming from mecanical engineering, and I mostly teached myself with "The R Book", so I may do silly things some time. PLease tell me if you think so. Anyway, I've just build up a piecewise linear model to fit some data, including some interaction and i
