Samba and NT4-sp5 problems ??
...IBM's own compiler. TCP based programs seem to work fine between the 2 machines, so I doubt we're experiencing some sort of NT mangling of the packets, but then again, you never know with a closed source product, do you? Note: I have heard that NT4-sp5 hates non-Microsoft applications, so mebbe we're experiencing this problem and samba has nothing to do with it.. *sigh* The sooner NT passes away in my sleep, the better. Samba odd behaviour on double NAT network
...inux boxes and Win2000, no WINS server, no DNS proxy etc., just plain old /etc/hosts, /etc/samba/lmhosts and equiv. on the Windows box. I can see everything from the Windows box, and I can connect to shares on any of the Linux boxes.... BUT: accessing individual files on lin1 which is SNATting (mebbe a prob.) I can't read any files, I can see them, but any attempt to copy/read them results in the Win box going looking 'out to sea' ie using it's external connection to go fishing for the files. I can see this from a dump (a la tcpdump) - although the Win2000 box knows where a...

VBR reencoding @128k problem
...e two versions, otherwise I would have tried those to further narrow down the changes. Jack, Brendan, or others that may know, would that change be intended for some reason, or am I the only person seeing it? Can anyone else reproduce my findings? I kinda feel like i'm smockin crack here, or mebbe the only person trying to reencode VBRs? *shrug* Any feedback would be welcome :) Thanks and mad props to the icecast crew! Command-line editing re-visited.
...Prof. Vogels' question, I was just following the instructions in ``An Introduction to R'' by Venables and Smith, et al. They ***mention*** that command line editing can be made to work with vi syntax, but they don't say ***how***. (At least I couldn't find the ``how''; mebbe I'm just blind.) So, I now come to my QUESTION: How ***do*** you persuade the R command-line editor to use vi syntax? Ideally I would like to be able to put something into an ``init'' file (.Renviron???) so that I always get vi syntax when I fire up R. Failing that, something that...

Postfix on VLANs
Hi All, I'm having some problems getting postfix to relay mail. I'd appreciate any tips. Perhaps there are some settings which I may have missed, somewhere. The postfix mail server is on VLAN 250 (192.168.250.0) whilst I have several other users on other VLANs (e.g. 91, 92, 93, etc... 192.168.91.0, 192.168.92.0, 192.168.93.0, etc...). So, if I had a PC sitting on VLAN 91 with IP

layer 8 / user level firewall on linux?
Hi all, Does anyone know of a Linux firewall that offers layer 8 firewall / user level firewalling? Cyberoam (http://www.cyberoam.com/firewall.html) has a layer 8 firewall built into their UTM firewalls, and while it's a great product I find it a bit limited for what I want. I basically want to track which user access what on the internet, from an internal network. Ideally I want to limit

Homedir Access without exposing whole Homedir.
Hello All, Dovecot 1.0.3 I am coming from UW IMAP, and I'm finding for some reason that mail is getting stored in a variety of places (which I believe, is because by default UW imap allowed access to the entire home directory). All files are mbox. My default delivery location is ~/.mail Thus: * At least a couple of my users have mail in ~/INBOX, as well as ~/INBOX.drafts (not many

Re: samba-server-3.0.4-2mdk
I took your advice late in the day Friday and pointed my urpmi sources at cooker. It took care of the Perl upgrade. I'm hoping to find time for configuration against the Openldap server I built. I really can't believe the Mandrake doc's got me up and running so quickly. I even created accounts in ldap for fellow staff memebers, including the boss, and had them log in. Love the

sshd doesn't log which RSA key was used
Hi guys, and another feature request for sshd which I would classify as really useful. And I think this behaviour is currently not available (If yes, sorry, I must have missed it): > I believe that the sshd should log which RSA key was used to connect to > an account. When there are a number of keys in the authorized_keys file > it is often useful to know which one was used for each

iproute create policy routes after reboot
Which files do I need to edit in order to initialize a route after a reboot. I have a 802.1q tagged VLAN interface which I need to create a rule, and a route for. I see on my CentOs 4.2 box that in /etc/iproute2 there are the following files. I realize that I can add my tables to /etc/iproute2/rt_tables, but when I want to create a rule I am not sure where to put the information for the

Running Asterisk on VMware ESX
A point of clarification. The "get started video" on asterisk.org says that running asterisk on a virtual platform is a popular option. "Go for it!" the presenter says. However, the 2011 third edition of Asterisk, The Definitive Guide says they don't recommend it for production use, though many do so successfully. I also don't find may recent discussions of this

Is there such a thing as button_to_remote?
I''ve changed my destructive link_to statements in favor of button_to. But what if I want to make an .rjs call with that button? Seems like we need something equivalent to link_to_remote, so that the button can make an ajax request instead submitting the form. Or am I missing the point entirely? 10 Year old IT Infrastructure
Hi Guys, I have a client who hopes to keep their server another 5 years making it 10 years old at that time. At this point there are no plans to add new infrastructure or a new server to the mix. Their business model is fairly static. I'd like to see them upgrade. Can anyone suggest specific reasons why running a business on 10 year old equipment is a bad thing? Specific arguments I can

The Siemens has a feature were I can also use a PSTN landline, but I not sure that's a great benefit. Has anybody tried these phones? I

IDE recommendations?
I was wondering if there are any IDEs out there that has autocomplete features for win32. It would be perfect if it could do something akin to what DHH is doing on the screencast hosted on the rails website. http://media.rubyonrails.org/video/rails_take2_with_sound.mov Cheers -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.
