Questions...
...nload ices to help me connect to the airtime computer. I went to your website www.icecast.org/ices.php
And downloaded both files for the ices2.
I am somewhat new with linux, I assumed that there would be a set-up file or something. Can you help me with my next steps for installing ices?
Thanks!

PAM overrides PermitEmptyPasswords
...roblem? It seems
that OpenSSH should override PAM in this case, someone posted a patch on 6/19
that appears to address this problem,
(http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=openssh-unix-dev&m=99293778402235&w=2)
is there any chance this will be fixed in the next release?
Thanks,

smbclient: support for long share names..?
I am running smbclient: Version 3.0.6-SUSE (SLES 8.0)
I am still unable to see any printer shares with names longer than 12
characters. Does anyone have an idea how to resolve this?
[Please cc: me with any replies]

This is a known limitation of the fact that samba-2.x does NOT support
true UniCode on the wire. This limitation should disappear in Samba-3.0.0
since it handles UniCode.

strange behaviour
Hi all.
Last thursday I've had to restore my customer's pdc from an hdd failure,
and by the evening I restored a full working state of server and
clients, rejoining all of them to the domain.
Next morning the customer called me saying that nothing was working, I
looked the server from remote without finding failures and then I went
there: I found that clients couldn't find the pdc

New UPS protocol choice - Dynamix
Gidday all - I'm a new user to nut.
I've got some cheap powerpal UPSs working fairly well.
However I also have a new Dynamix UPS-1700D and an old Powercom KIN-1700
something unit that I cannot make work right.
The best method I've found is "trial and error" which sounds a bit
last-resort. Is there any better way to find out what protocol is used?

sshd hangs on logout -- is this a bug?
...acks. sshd will now hang again
if there are background children with open fds.
Does this mean that this is regarded as expected (and correct) behavior, that
should not change in the future, or does it mean that this behavior is a
known problem that someone will eventually fix?

Samba + BDE and slow speed on reading (long)
Hello list.
I'm new here, and I'm joining because I'm having a problem wich I can't figure out the solution myself. Here's what's happening:
A Samba 3.0.24 is serving files to seven Windows XP clients. Three of those clients run an application with a BDE database. The problem is that when running this application on Samba, it gets very, VERY slow, causing it to hang. I

Build VirtualBox OSE for CentOS?
Is there any need for CentOS to build and distribute the OSE version of
VirtualBox?
The differences between the versions are here:
http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Editions
The reason I ask is that the Full version is free for personal use and
the restrictions (especially no USB or RDP) make the OSE version fairly
crippled, so I am not sure there is enough benefit to design and keep
updated

Suggestion: Man page clarification
...tead of the directory itself.
rsync has a special section in the man page that points out that this is
actually expected behavior, it would be nice if scp also had this information
in the man page.
I've attached a patch for scp.1 which I believe addresses the issue.
Thanks,

3.7.1p1 and PAM
Hi,
I've spent a lot of time digging the last couple days and seen some talk about how now with 3.7.1p1 the PAM challenge response requiring keyboard interactive on the client is "right" and no longer a kludge. I understand that.
Unfortunately I've got a bunch of users who's client (www.ssh.com's client version 3.2.3) doesn't function without a kludged server.

SWAT won't start
Hi,
I'm setting up Samba on a RH ES linux machine. I have basic functionality
working and can access a share from a Windows pc. I set up smb.conf
manually. I'd like to use SWAT but when I try to run it I get the error:
-- The connection was refused when attempting to contact localhost:901 --
I set up the xinetd configuration file exactly as I've seen online. Webmin
works fine.

Circular links and backups
Hello,
I ran into an interesting problem earlier today. I have a Unix
machine I maintain in a largely Windows shop. They use Windows Backup
for their backups, and so I created a readonly share of the entire
filesystem with one user, "backup", who is an admin user. This lets
them back up the entire Unix machine by attaching to the "backup"
share, but nothing can be changed.
