SMS Service over SIP/IAX/h323/MCGP
...lication it should work over different signaling protocols in the same way. Then the user should not need to know what kind of device the other end is using in order to send an SMS and to receive SMSs back. Therefore, in my opinion, if an SMS type of service is to be implemented over SIP/IAX/h323/MCGP it should follow the appropriate GSM procedures quite closely, in order to make the interworking as easy as possible. There is a fresh draft of SMS for H.323. You can find it under http://standard.pictel.com/ftp/avc-site/0305_Gen/ with name H.450.sms_Draft_8May2003.zip As any of the H.450 featur...

3-4 port FXO card recommendations
...multipoort FXS cards. So far, the cheapest route seems to be to buy three Digum FXO cards; however, the system I want to use them it only has some three/four PCI slots. Having one card with three FXO ports would be useful. I'm also open to using an external device. I bought a DLink dual port MCGP FXS device and that works well. The name of the game is CHEAP though...and Ebay has not been very useful. Any recommendations? Experiences? Mark

Desired Install in MotorHome
...n extreamly hostile environment, the satelite uplink itself introduces too much latency for a standard configuration to work (1500ms) which is most likely where the problems come from. What I'm wondering is if anyone has ever succeded in making a setup like this work. Different protocol (H.323 MCGP etc) or different codecs? Our testing in his driveway revealed the following. 1. Incoming calls achieve a ring almost immediately, when answered there is 1 to 2 seconds delay in the conversation (like a really poor trans-atlantic call) 2. Outgoing calls fail... the phone returns "Proxy Aut...

advantages of a sip phone over Wildcard TDM400P solution
Hi, after finally getting my testsystem to work well I'm planning to buy some hardware. Now I was wondering what the advantages / disadvantages of using a Wildcard TDM400P solution over using real sip phones like the snoms is? The only thing I came up with is that the Snoms can use a LDAP adressbook on the server. What about calling a sip adress like person@server.com. Can this be done by

Cisco 7960
Anyone know if it is possible to load your own XML scripts on to the phone, bypassing the Cisco CallManager? I am still waiting for my phone to arrive, but I have been playing with Cisco's phone services emulator, and that doesn't seem to like anything I pass to it. If it is possible, anyone want to share any sample scripts they have. --Mike

New Windows IAX Client
Announcing a new Windows-based IAX/IAX2 client. Please download it and give it a try. Let me know about any bugs, and any missing features. I have yet to come up with a catchy name for it, so at this point it calls itself IAX Phone. (Suggestions? Non-derogatory suggestions, preferably).
