I'm drawing a paneled histogram using the lattice package. I've succeeded in adding minor tick marks to the vertical axis, but I can't get the desired number of minor tick marks between the major tick marks. If no 'type' is specified, download.packages("pkgname") will download source packages (.tar.gz files), even on Windows. However, the help says type character string, indicate which type of packages: see install.packages. and on Windows, install.packages defaults to downloading binary packages. Is this intended behaviour on the part of download.packages? This is on R

Have you looked into your .Rprofile file? Loading packages is not something R normally does without your telling it to do so, but many people forget that they have done so.
