adding [markdown] to the email subject lines for markdown-discuss
Hi All,
I was wondering what people thought to the idea of getting "[markdown]"
added to the subject lines of all the mails to the markdown mailing list?
It would certainly help me out with my email organisation.
Many thanks

attribute blocks for definition lists
Hello,
As I am using markdown to write documentation, I am often tempted to make
links to terms in definition lists.
Since this is not possible for now (at least in php markdown extra), I was
wondering if this could be a common addition in major implementation
supporting definition lists.

term {#id}

This syntax tries to follows current convention and

Babelmark
I'm currently attempting to write a spec for parsing Markdown Extra,
and since one goal is to minimize the differences in output between
implementations, I've made a tool allowing me to compare who does what
for any given input. I hope this can also facilitate future
discussions about the syntax.
So here's Babelmark, a testbed for various Markdown implementations

Treetop or like grammar for Markdown (in Ruby)
Has anyone seen any attempts to give Markdown a PEG (parsing
expressions grammar) recognizable by some ruby PEG parser generator
grammar like Treetop?

PEG Markdown Highlight
Dear fellow Markdown enthusiasts,
As you all might know, Markdown is a highly context sensitive language that the (often regex-based) syntax highlighting mechanisms in existing editors struggle to keep up with.
I have taken John MacFarlane's excellent peg-markdown compiler and modified its parser to function as an interpreter for syntax highlighting purposes. The end result is a

Mac markdown editor that saves as .txt
Hi all,
I'm a newer user of markdown & MultiMarkdown, and I'm looking for the
perfect setup of software for my Mac and my Android phone. I'd like to
have my drafts editable from both.
What I want is an attractive Mac app for writing (primarily blog posts and
emails) that saves its files as .txt . Most of them save as .md or
.markdown instead, and since there doesn't seem to

peg-markdown (C) and rpeg-markdown (ruby gem)
Markdowners:
I've released version 0.4.1 of peg-markdown, a C implementation of
markdown. peg-markdown uses Ian Piumarta's peg/leg parser generator to
generate a parser from a parsing expression grammar (PEG). You can

MDTest 1.0
I'm announcing today a new testsuite application for Markdown called
MDTest. I've been using it as a replacement for John's Markdown Test
for some time now I think it's ready for release.
First, I want to say Markdown Test has been very useful in developing
PHP Markdown. The testsuite covers many cases, however I still found
the need to add other tests for PHP Markdown, to

No Markdown in <div>s or <table>s ?

Styling Markdown approaches
Hi guys,
I wrote a markdown based Web editor thing for my sister:
http://ws.dabase.com/
And she has trouble styling blocks of markdown. Since <div
markdown=1>markdown here</div> does not work on my Debian markdown
binary.
Is there a formal definition of markdown? Or some sort of conformance
test? And certain markdown implementations I should be using, and
certain ones I should be

Object-Oriented PHP Markdown/SmartyPants
This is something that I've been asked for many times. So today I'm
announcing that all future versions of PHP Markdown and PHP
SmartyPants will be encapsulated in a parser class. This has two
major benefits:
1. It should make extensions to the syntax easier to create and
maintain as it is now possible to now extend the parser by
replacing (overriding) only the relevant

Showdown -- A javascript port of Markdown
Hi,
I've just posted the first public version of Showdown, a full
javascript port of Markdown. It's 10KB and works in all major
browsers. Try out the sample app:
<http://www.attacklab.net/showdown-gui.html>
Full source code is available:

All the heavy lifting is done by the browser's regular expression
engine, so

evolving the spec (was: forking Markdown.pl?)

I think the whole enterprise would be a lot more valuable, if we
produce a combined spec, which would be self-contained, and call it
Markdown 2.0.
I don't think we necessarily need a formal grammar. What we need is
to create a document, starting with "Markdown Syntax" perhaps,

Extra markdown suggestions
Hello List,
I have recently started using Michel Fortin's PHP "Markdown Extra"
implementation to programmatically transform my markdown text files into
HTML. Firstly I'd like to say markdown is very cool -- thanks to everyone
involved :)
I'd also like to suggest two additions to markdown:
1) I very often use /this/ markdown to indicate emphasis since I find it

While I empathize with your predicament, I generally prefer not to have
expletives in my inbox. Also, what has this to do with markdown?

Markdown, SmartyPants and Wordpress?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I'm redesigning my site and considering moving from Movable Type to
WP, but many of my entries are in Markdown. I really, really like
Markdown and SmartyPants. I've not used Textile much, but Markdown
feels more natural to me; also, I love SmartyPants because I'm a
stickler for curly quotes.
I understand there's a Markdown

What does Markdown do with HTML comments? Recommendation on Markdown file extension?
Hi there!
(1.)
It may sound awkward, but I would like to use comments in Markdown texts.
According to the rule that proper HTML works as HTML, I should be able to
use
<!-- blablabla -->
But the converters I use do strange things with comments. Is there an
official rule about that?
(2.)
I wonder if there is a recommended standard file extension for Markdown
source files.

ANN: python-markdown2 -- another Python implementation of Markdown
Hello all,
I'm announcing python-markdown2 -- another Python implementation of
Markdown. (MIT license.)
http://code.google.com/p/python-markdown2/
It should be a drop-in replacement for
[markdown.py](http://www.freewisdom.org/projects/python-markdown/). It
fixes some issues that I ran into with markdown.py [^1]. I believe
that it is faster than markdown.py [^2] and on par or a little

Universal syntax for Markdown
Hi,
because of the great editor "Writer" from Information Architects I've
learned about Markdown and I love it. But it's very confusing, that
there are so many standards with different features: classical
Markdown, Markdown Extra, MultiMarkdown. I think for most users and
the spreading of Markdown it would be nice, to have only one syntax.
And this universal syntax should have
