-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I'm redesigning my site and considering moving from Movable Type to WP, but many of my entries are in Markdown. I really, really like Markdown and SmartyPants. I've not used Textile much, but Markdown feels more natural to me; also, I love SmartyPants because I'm a stickler for curly quotes. I understand there's a Markdown plugin for WP, but I have two questions: 1) My "links" entries (automated posts from del.icio.us) are in HTML format. My written entries are in Markdown. Can I specify a default (say, HTML) and then make an individual post (i.e., when I start a written entry) Markdown? 2) Is SmartyPants or an analog available for WP? 3) What is the difference between PHP Markdown and PHP Markdown Extra? Thanks for any help. - --Rob - -------------------------------------------------------- robdumas at gmail.com http://obnoxio.us/ -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.5 (Darwin) iD8DBQFG1lM4q8zb2xxIEvARAgbMAJ43uzmudRyrSSgYj+1mGAXXu+KC/ACePx98 2nXntgQoII3aMLaK5OEGwzs=1vbw -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

However, the good news is that you should not need this, because Markdown is designed to leave HTML formatted code intact and not apply its own formatting it. I have not used this with del.icio.us, but I had a Wordpress blog where I needed special formatting in some entries. So I wrote these entries in HTML, and all the other ones in Markdown. In my case, this worked really well.> 2) Is SmartyPants or an analog available for WP?I got that from the same source as the markdown plugin: http://www.michelf.com/projects/php-smartypants/ Michael Himsolt

But I'm not sure it's well maintained. Markdown, and especially the latest releases of PHP Markdown are really great at handling HTML. As Michael Himsolt suggested, I think you should give it a try, I'd be surprised if you have any problem with it.> 2) Is SmartyPants or an analog available for WP?<http://www.michelf.com/projects/php-smartypants/>> 3) What is the difference between PHP Markdown and PHP Markdown Extra?Basically, Extra adds interesting features for mixing Markdown within HTML blocks, a syntax for simple tables, definition lists, footnotes, automatic abbreviations, and a revised rule for underscore emphasis so that it only work on word boundaries. All the details are here: <http://www.michelf.com/projects/php-markdown/extra/> On the other hand, you should take note that Extra is a little bit slower.
