I did a clean install of Redhat 7.3 on a system. The install
included samba, samba-client, samba-common. I moved the saved
versions of smb.conf, smbusers and swbpasswd to /etc/samba. Then I
started up smb by issuing "/etc/init.d/smb start" I have set smb to

samba from RedHat 3 doesn't work in RedHat 4
I recently upgraded my server from a RedHat 3 on a Dell Precision 410 to
RedHat 4 on a Dell Optiplex GX 620
I moved all the samba configuration files from one system to the other.
The old system worked as a domain master across several subnets with
the use of local samba masters on each of the outlying subnets.
The new system cannot be seen as a master on the outlying subnets.

One Windows computer not connecting directly to server
We have a RedHat samba server to which a whole department of Windows
connects directly when a user logs onto the Windows computer. So the
server is working fine.
We have a rebuilt Windows XP Pro computer that does not make the
connection directly. The user has to log into the server through the
Network Neighborhood. The Windows XP Pro has the correct ip address
and network name. The

[Bug 364] on ssh 3.4 - Privilee separation user /"sshd." does not exist
Dear ssh group,
I am having the same problem as reported by mkoopman at cac.com
on July 19th on various SUN platforms which I manage. I would
appreciate notification of when the bug is fixed or any work-around.
Until then I am running 3.4 without the "UsePrivilegeSeparation".
Thanks for any help.

Problem with logging in across domains
Dear group,
I work for two departments, each with their own samba server.
Each samba server has a domain name related to the department's name.
In previous versions of samba members of the first domain could log
into the second domain if they had a passwd on the second domain's
server. This was accomplished by the following line in
/etc/samba/smb.conf
domain guest group = server2

Both are using the smb.conf except with changes on their netbios name

Problems with Windows sharing samba printers
We have samba and cups running on a RedHat Enterprise 3 system;
samba-3.0.4 and cups-1.1.17-13.
This weekend our Windows 98 computers lost contact with some of the
printers. They can see the printers to add the samba printers. The
Windows 98 computers can print to the samba printers as the printers
are added onto the system. However, when the Windows 98 computers try
to print to the samba

Problems with lexmark printers
We have just added a lexmark c510 color laserjet printer to our
network. I have worked with HP printers previous to this and have
successfully had Windows computers select a queue from our linux server
which fed into the HP printers. This does not work with the lexmark
printers.
Neither Windows XP or Windows 2000 worked by using the lexmark as a
network printer going through the server.

CUPS log files flooding
The latest updates to my 2.6.9-78.ELsmp system has caused the /var/log/
cups/access_log files to fill up the /var partition in short order.
This causes havoc with samba connections to Windows computers and
printing through the RedHat server stops working after awhile.
Thanks, Adrian Sender, for the temporary fix, ie. modifying /etc/cups/
cupsd.conf to set the LogLevel to none.

Lastest upgrade of smb on RedHat doesn't work
The latest upgrade of from samba 3.0.9 to samba 3.0.10 has caused
problems on my samba server.
On the Windows computers you can no longer see the WINS server ( the
RedHat server) in the Network Neighborhood, say server1. The
printers that we have added through the network neighborhood no
longer work.
One has to search for the full name of the server

tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE with samba samba-3.0.4-6.3E
I learned the new samba configurations for samba-3.0.2-6.3E on a RedHat
Enterprise 3 system. I could successfully create a domain master or
a samba server to work as a connection to a domain master on another
subnet.
I then upgraded another system to Redhat Enterprise 3, copied over the
smb.conf file from the system that was working as a connection to a
domain master. I modified the
