OT: OGG in the mainstream
I think when the real-time cbr encoding issues are sorted Vorbis (this is my experience with oddcast dsp, winamp and icecast 2 win32, big cpu hog) will start gaining more ground, also I think it will also gain more ground when it starts getting implemented into the more mainstream software and hardware products. For the most part vbr mp3 (btw, provide mp3's for downloads as vbr.. Better

[LLVMdev] C as used/implemented in practice: analysis of responses
As part of a project to clarify what behaviour of C implementations is actually relied upon in modern practice, and what behaviour is guaranteed by current mainstream implementations, we recently distributed a survey of 15 questions about C, https://goo.gl/AZXH3S. We were asking what C is in current mainstream practice: the behaviour that programmers assume they can rely on, the behaviour

Why Ruby on Rails won''t become mainstream
Why Ruby on Rails won''t become mainstream http://beust.com/weblog/archives/000382.html Kind of interesting, but didn''t convince me. Though, yeah, I can imagine a lot of naive programmers sticking with PHP and VB (the type of crowd that also doesn''t run their own servers, so they''re dependent on hosts offering Rails for them). Rails DOES have an IDE - soon

16TB ext3 mainstream - when?
Are we likely to see patches to allow 16TB ext3 in the mainstream kernel any time soon? I am working with a storage box that has 16x750GB drives RAID5-ed together to create a potential 10.5TB of potential storage. But because ext3 is limited to 8TB I am forced to split into 2 smaller ext3 filesystems which is really cumbersome for my app. Any ideas anybody?

Mac project files in mainstream
Hmm... The Mac makefiles are beginning to get really out of date in the mainstream ogg and vorbis trees. As a mtter of fact, there aren't any Mac makefiles in the ogg tree. I can make an attempt to update them, but I'm not very good at library work (exported symbols confuse the hell out of me), or if Chris is listening, I'm making a request for an update... please? Thanks,

Recommended PHP 7 source for Centos 7
I know there's a couple third party repos offering PHP 7 for Centos. I prefer not to add too much third party that I don't have to and PHP 7 has been mainstream for some time now, I thought maybe it would be in EPEL by now. What is the most recommended and stable way to get an up to date PHP on Centos 7?

Debate: Shall some of Microsoft R Open Code be ported to mainstream R?
Dear R Developers, First of all, I would like to thank you Jeroen Ooms for taking the binary Window Builds from Duncan. I firmly believe that the R Community will benefit a lot from his work. However, the debate I would like to open is about if some of Microsoft R Open Code shall be ported from R Open to Mainstream R. There are some beneficts in R Open such as multithreaded performance:

User here: incorporating Intel's MKL, as MRO does, would be a very welcome addition. I was an MRO user before and it improved my experience with medium data immensely. They did, however, leave behind bugs here and there, especially related to development with Rcpp, so I switched back to vanilla R. So as long as I can read, OpenBlas, for Windows, might be a worth considering option: http://www.openblas.net But Intel MKL also seems to be free*: https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/free-mkl Thank you, Juan El 30/10/2017 6:45 p. m., "Avraham Adler" <avraham.adler at gmail.com> escribi?: > [Sent offlist accidentally] > > What concerns me first and foremost is

apple to Intel
I am wondering what the list's opinion is on the Apple to Intel switch. This is going to put a slick desktop that runs on top of BSD directly into the mainstream. What does this hold for Linux in general, Linux on the desktop..and microsoft. -- Computer House Calls, Networks, Security, Web Design: http://www.emmanuelcomputerconsulting.com What businesses are in Brunswick, Maryland?

R vs octave development strategy (and success)
Hi All, if memory serves me well I recall some paper comparing the relative success in getting mainstream acceptance (as mainstream as statistics can be) of both R and Octave. I remember vaguely that the fact the development strategies (core team vs one main developer) played a major role in the relative success of the two programs. I tried to find this paper, but my goggle skills are failing

Debate: Shall some of Microsoft R Open Code be ported to mainstream R?
[Sent offlist accidentally] What concerns me first and foremost is that the licensure would have to be ironclad (including for commercial use like vanilla R now) as well as ensuring that R remains completely FLOSS. Anything ?added? to R has to be a no-strings-attached gift to R. Also, I would think that it would have to play nice with existing workflows (like OpenBLAS instead of MKL) unless

Suggestions for mainstream hardware compatible with TE411P.
I checked the list of what not to use, but am still having no fun trying to find a working box. Can someone suggest a Compaq or Dell or MPC or . any other brand and model that is known to work well with the TE411P ? Will an old Proliant do? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:
