Storage upgrade maildir suggestions?
...nger time periods. That's fine, but space consuming.
The maildirs are about 1 TB in total, and not long ago we enabled zlib
which is very nice.
Now I have some thoughts about the next steps:
a) Migrating the whole system to a new server with more storage?
b) Install a virtual server for the mailsystem and an extra storage
system may be NFS?
c) Stay with the current server and move all mails to a bigger NFS storage.
The last option c) would be the most easy one for me as I currently have
NFS space.
Any thoughts? Hints regarding the NFS storage? Pros Cons?
I have seen the dovecot wiki on NFS a...

mdbox: more then one altstorage
The mdbox-format with the altstorage-feature is quite nice and important.
But we're having much more then >> 30 TB of maildata and doing an fsck
on huge partitions takes too much (down-) time for our mailsystem.
It would be much easier, if Dovecot would be able to use at least THREE
storage-paths for his m-Files (and not just TWO like now).
Having an altstorage1 and altstorage2, we would be able to move away all
mails from on altstorage-mountpoint, we could put this
storage-moungpoint into "mainten...

Authenticate user thru PAM
my mailsystem is using postfix and virtual mailbox which stored in mysql db.
SMTP AUTH is using PAM, pam-mysql to authenticate against a mysql db.
I installed dovecot 0.99-14. In the dovecot example config file
it mentioned that auth_passdb can check against thru PAM but auth_userdb didn't

Pure virtual user and RT3.x
Hi,
I have mailsystem with virtual users only (/home/vmail/domain/user). I
need to integrate RT3.x (a ticketing system). I have installed the
client but I need to send mail to a pipe. Rt wants me to insert:

delivery agent in 1.0?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hi :)
Is there any plan to include delivery agent in 1.x?
I would be very happy, if there would be lmtp delivery agent included
with dovecot 1.x... This would make creating large mailsystem cluster
creation very simple + indexes would be always up2date.

Mails repopping
HI
I don't know if this is a dovecot issue or a client one. But as Dovecot is the most recent change, I'll start here.
I have a server that's been running Courier for about 6 years and in all that time I think I've only ever had 1 issues where an entire mail box was repopped by a webmail client. However, since moving to a new server and dovecot 4 weeks ago, I've now had the

[Just a new try] Questsions about Stubdomains
Hello all,
I hope that it now works and there is no longer problems with my
mailsystem. It could be that it already worked but it doesn''t look
like because the mail don''t came back from the list.
I am trying to setup stubdomains for my running domains on Xen 4.2. I
read this wiki articles:

Current thinking on backups ?
Hi,
What are people doing for backups ?
My current process is LVM snapshot and backup from that to NFS share.
But there seems to be hints around the internet that people use/abuse "doveadm backup" for backup purposes even though it seems its original intention was for transferring mailboxes between dovecot instances.
Assuming its ok to "doveadm backup" to an NFS share, is it

LMTP with virtual and system users

Multiple domains to one inbox and temporary redirects...
...domains to deliver to one inbox with Dovecot? For example, user1 at example.com and user1 at example.net should both be delivered to /var/spool/mail/virtual/example.net/user1
Currently, I have the dovecot LDA set as:
dovecot unix - n n - - pipe

and in dovecot.conf:

For some domains only, I need to override that mail_location.
Related to that, when user1 leave and user2 would like to receive user1's email, how can...

OT but E-Mail related. save a copy off all mail as eml
Hi,
I'm sorry to bug you with an not directly dovecot related question, but
this is for me right now the place with the best mailsystem admins I know.
I'm asked if there is a way to save a copy of all mail we send trough
our sendmail server (Red Hat EL 5.x) in and out as an .eml file for
further processing by a DMS system. The files should be saved on some
network share.
Any suggestion are welcome and thanks. Best regards G?t...

proxy, userdb and passdb
Dear all,
We are getting closer to the migration of our mailsystem. Now I have a
special question. We are successfully using
passdb {
driver = pam
}
and that is good. Now, how would I tell dovecot to proxy certain users
(the ones not yet migrated) to the old server? My attempts to configure
an additional userdb failed since this seems to override the passd...

Quota Messages
...re is no good way to keep
the trash out of the quotathing and that's not the point of my
question.
The question is: Is there a way where Dovecot (or Postfix) inform the
user that his quota is reaching its limit? Or maybe the postmaster,
thats not important. The important thing is a way where my mailsystem
tells somebody that quotas are reaching their limits.
Greetings from Germany

This would certainly be a great start. As I see it, a mailsystem Wiki
should have some specific divisions itself. One would be 'General' and
then it would likely need 'Sendmail', 'Postfix', 'Qmail' areas. I'm just
thinking out loud here. I've never done anything on a Wiki. I think a
good initial layout however would be...
