need it, but again, this is a different discussion for a different
list.
I believe efforts like GSOC are better fit for our project, for AFAIK
they are inclusive to all, and technically sound, but I also know they
are scarce.
In the past, John Maddog Hall tried to create a similar effort for
hacking Arm boards, sponsored by big companies, especially tailored to
developing countries. It did not work.
It's really hard to find places that will fund developers, especially
young ones and the ones that have no other opportunity. But we have to

XCP community call
Hi all,
The next XCP community call is somewhat overdue, and many things have happened in the intervening time. In particular, Stephen Spector has sadly (for us) moved on to new projects, so we currently don''t have a community manager to organise such things as these calls. Until we get someone (or two!) to fill Stephens role, I''ll temporarily try to organise at least the next

Why Are You Using FreeBSD?
Hi Everyone,
This is off-topic, so please feel free to disregard it, but I'm sending it to this list in the hope that it will reach a largish number of users.
I am currently looking at updating some of our advocacy material (which advertises exciting new features like SMP support), and before I do I'd like to get a better feel for why the rest of you are using FreeBSD. If you had to

save as in windows
First off I want to thank everyone who is working and contributing to
Samba. I have installed FreeBSD on a Pentium PC and have compiled samba
with gcc. I have it working and can post shares of printers and drives
but have ran into a problem. I read through the documentation several
times and can't seem to find the answer. When I open a document for any
Windows-based Apps and try to save it.

Parallel encoding
I'm afraid this e-mail is me being lazy. I'm interested in adapting the
encoder to farm out work to various machines on a network. I'm just
trying to find out if this is going to be trivial. I don't know how the
encoder works but from my very brief glance through the code it would
appear that a state is maintained 'vorbis_dsp_state' that's going to
make my distributed

pam_open_session w/o tty on Solaris
Hello, all-
Apparently, under Solaris (I can personally confirm SunOS 5.7 and 5.8),
pam_open_session will generate a segfault if PAM_TTY is not set. The
obvious symptom of this is that OpenSSH 2.9.9p2 will segfault on any
operation that does not request a tty (do_exec_no_pty).
Based on a quick google search, this seems to have been encountered
by others, though the specific symptoms seem to
