Why I reinvented the wheel with M3F
...ting the wheel? for this little media description format of mine. Fare enough. But I wanted to show everyone why it is sometimes best to sometings that has been done before all over. See the attached document. It uses existing technology plus a new name space. I call my Frankenstein: XML+RDF+DC+M3F (or just M3F for short) or The Resource Description Format (RDF) built on the Extensible Markup Language (RDF) using the well recognised Dublin Core metadata set (DC) with the new Multimedia Metadata Format (M3F). As everyone can see from the attachment: Building an all new XML name space with...

Contrinued work with Multimedia Metadata Format (M3F)
Hi again Ivo and the Xiph ogg-dev emailing list, This email is meant to present two blockers for continued development of the XML based Multimedia Metadata Format (M3F) (MDMF page in the wiki). This format is intended to replace comments as a way of including descriptions of metadata contained in the Ogg container format. For instance title, production year, actors, producers, and so on for movies; and artist, musicians, labels, and so on for audio. As well a...

The page says at the top: "This page aims to give an overview of the current state of metadata in Ogg and the ongoing projects towards improving it." which would seem to include draft specs. For now, I hav...

Multimedia Metadata Format (M3F) draft
Hi ogg-dev list, I have improved the format formally known as Media Description and Metadata (MDMF) for the Ogg Container Format. Please have a look at the M3F page in the wiki http://wiki.xiph.org/M3F The format have been simplified and designed primarily with audio and movie recordings in mind. The old version focused on providing separate tools for each media type, were the new version treats every media type as a media resources. I welcome all fe...

M3F: Multimedia Metadata Format
...be required by the format. Regarding the poor naming for my proposal: I just though up a name for the XML format; and MDMF was the best I could come up with at 5am. I think no one will oppose changing the name to my new suggestion (right below). Though someone might be better at naming stuff. M3F, or the Multimedia Metadata Format. Thoughts? Feedback on XML metadata namespace
Hi ogg-dev list, After discussing the [lack of] metadata standards on the irc://irc.freenode.net/#Vorbis channel yesterday I figured I had to contribute to this process. Attached is a sample XML formatted metadata sheet describing a song; and shows off other media type elements as well. How this is to be embedded in the OGG container is not my field. I have only spent a couple of hours

XMLEmbedding is intended for both XML files and XML streams. The former would be used with things like M3F and, in this case, would be stored near the start of the Ogg container before any audio/video data ("chained" and not "grouped"). There is a little more information on the Metadata page at: https://wiki.xiph.org/Metadata#XMLEmbedding M3F is another draft that seems to be morib...

Tidy up of XiphWiki VorbisComment page
I have been tidying up the VorbisComment page in the XiphWiki. The problem with it was that it was a mixture of proposals and discussion of those proposals. This made it difficult for implementers to see what to implement. The problem section is: http://wiki.xiph.org/index.php/VorbisComment#New_ENCODER_field_name_proposal This is a mess, and all I could do was add attributions to the

Adviced way of tagging music
I change a lot of my CD to Ogg to be able to listen them easily from my computer (I use foobar, I was used to WMP but it does not support library for Ogg files and plug-ins I found for this where poor) without the need for frequent CD changing. I like my music to be richly tagged. But with classical music CD it is a real pain to tag those files. Typical problems involve: - single CD

All, using Samba as an AD (2k12) domain member in Stretch (2:4.5.12+dfsg-2+deb9u4) with tdb as default and rid as domain backend. No overlapping. Everything works fine. The use for an XML based metadata format
Daniel, these are all good ideas and worth progressing. However, it may be better not to merge too many goals in one format (MPEG-7 did that and ended up as a big mess). So, I suggest to start by structuring the types of things you want - then finding out which parts belong where into existing formats such as vorbis comment, Skeleton and CMML, and only then start to develop a new format. For
