smbd -D hangs
I'm testing both sunfreeware and official sun (sfw) samba on Solaris
10. For some reason since yesterday, the smbd process just "hangs" at
the start.
No log is generated on server side
Where smbd is started, I can't find any open port on 139 or 145
My OS is Solaris 10

Oracle 9.2.0.6 on Solaris 10
How can I tell if this is normal behaviour? Oracle imports are horribly slow, an order of magnitude slower than on the same hardware with a slower disk array and Solaris 9. What I can look for to see where the problem lies?
The server is 99% idle right now, with one database running. Each sample is about 5 seconds. I''ve tried setting kernel parameters despite the docs saying that

Mongrel & irbrc
Why does mongrel_rails insist on loading ~/.irbrc with each request?
a) I''m curious why it loads it at all (I assume there''s no way of
getting an inline breakpointer??)
b) Why re-load it? It causes problems with any constants that are
used in .irbrc... (alternatively, how do I avoid re-assigning to a
constant?)

How do I look up syscall name
I''m using a fbt probe where I get a system call id as an argument, how do I look up the name of it? At the moment I''m post-processing the output using /etc/name/to_sysnum but that doesn''t feel right :)
cheers,
/Martin

Odd Samba 4 ("4.2.0pre1-GIT-b505111"; actually only using client) behaviour #2 - "accept: Software caused connection abort".
Good day oh technical ones .

I was running Samba 4 (client only, not using it as a DC so
effectively running Samba 3 code from the Samba 4 tree) and, other than a
little "Gotcha!" regarding decoding Kerberos PACs, it was all working
perfectly.
Then recently I had to upgrade, to "4.2.0pre1-GIT-b505111"

zfs inotify?
OK, so this may be a little off-topic, but here goes:
The reason I switched to OpenSolaris was primarily to take advantage of ZFS''s
features when storing my digital imaging collection.
I switched from a pretty stock Linux setup, but it left me at one
disadvantage. I had been using inotify under Linux to trigger a series of Ruby
scripts that would do all the basic ingestion/setup for
