...ing). I've replicated this problem with code and data directly from R texts such as Crawley's Statistics: An Introduction Using R, so I don't think it is operator error (but it could be). Any ideas? Thanks, Jeff-- ________________________________________________________ Jeffrey J. Opening Scripts with long paths causes R 2.6.0 to crash
...to this new version of R, I have been having problems opening scripts: opening certain scripts result in R crashing. After some experimentation, I discovered that it is a problem with the number of subdirectories in the path. For example, if the script is located in c:\Documents and Settings\JLusk\Desktop\Projects 07\ the script opens fine. However, if I move the same script into a subdirectory in Projects 07 such as c:\Documents and Settings\JLusk\Desktop\Projects 07\Grouse\ R crashes and closes. I didn't have this problem with R 2.5.1, so was wondering if anyone else has had thi...

multivariate regression using R
...there is a way to run multivariate linear regression in R? I tried using the lm function (e.g., lm(dv1, dv2~iv1+iv2+iv3), but got error messages. Is my syntax wrong, or do I need a particular package? Thanks, Jeff-- ________________________________________________________ Jeffrey J. SO_{RCV,SND}BUF=8192 ?
Mostly out of curiosity: I've seen people advising that we set SO_{RCV,SND}BUF to 8192 as an optimization. I added a call to getsockopt() to grab the old (default) value before setting it to the new, and it turns out (on DG/UX), that the default value is 8760 (or 8704, when you throw in the fact that packets are travelling between different sublans), so the 8192 "optimization" is a

NT system call tracing?
This isn't exactly a Samba question, but I heard Luke Leighton say something at LISA NT that I'd like to know a little more about. In reference to gina.dll and user authentication, Luke said that NT makes a call to something along the lines of "LogonUserEx()", which isn't documented (although "LogonUser()" is). What I'd like to know is: how did he know? Is

domain_master_node_status_fail: ... Cannot sync browser lists.
This looks like a bug to me, except . . . no one else seems to have encountered it, and it's in a pretty basic area, so there must be something wrong at our site. When the Unix server becomes a local master browser, Samba is unable to sync its browse list w/that of the DMB. None of our NT machines are having any trouble, and our tech. support guy says the DMB is in good health. Rebooting

unable to sync browse lists
I'm having two problems. I encountered the second while trying to set up a clean environment to work on the first. Can somebody tell me if (a) I've done something obviously wrong, or (b) this is a known Samba bug? Any help is appreciated. John. First problem: From nmbd: domain_master_node_status_fail: Doing a node status request to the domain master browser for workgroup
