%U in include
Hello,
I had problem with %U in include tag in configuration file smb.conf.
I try explain the problem. When I connecting from Windows (domain)
the samba server doesn't properly include file.
E.g.: smb.conf
include = smb.conf.%U
It include only smb.conf. at first time.
I find no information about it so I try write patch for it. Please
could you say me, if it's wrong? I have no problem

Samba as a portable userland FS basis?
Recently, I looked at some options implementing unusual file systems
in userland.
On Linux, there is LUFS and similar stuff which frees one from touching
any kernel code. The design is always similar: a generic kernel module
forwards calls to a user level daemon and forwards returned results
back. The user level daemon implements or serves as a basis for
unusual user land filesystem implmentation.

rsync as a remote file system protocol?
Does anyone know of an existing facility to access a remote
rsync server as a virtual filesystem through gnome-vfs, FUSE, lufs, or
similar that supports listing the contents of directories?
I have already a bunch of web searches, looked through
http://fuse.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/FileSystems, checked my
/usr/lib/gnome-vfs-2.0/modules/, and checked the list of available KDE
kio slaves on my system.
In case anyone...

passwd chat for samba->kerberos passwd-sync
Hello!
I tried to run a samba3 server as pdc for windowsXP clients with ldap
backend and kerberos authentication.
I stuck with these two possibilities:
1. Samba is pdc, winxp is domain-member, users are autheticated against
smbpasswords within ldapsam.
If the kerberos password of the korresponding principal has the same
password, the users get a ticket from the kdc after windows logon.
But I

new functionality possible?
I am only user of OpenBSD not a programmer :(
I wonder if such idea is feasible to combine easy to use
"mount" command regarding nfs with functionality of
OpenSSH to eliminate the need to use of nfs.
I would imagine "mount" command with the option -s
to invoke eg. "mount_snfs" command which would use
ssh, scp, sftp protocols to open and mount remote

Samba4/Franky and wins/nmb
Hello,
I have a question about netbios browsing in samba4. When I follow Samba4/Franky Howto
I'm unable to browse my domain on windows clients (Win XP, 7). I see no computers in my domain

It wrotes that I have not permission to use this network resources (even for Domain Admins).

Our success story with samba4
Hi all,
This message is a testament to the great work samba team has done, but
its also an encouragement to those of you that still not sure if samba4
will work in your environment.
This semester we have moved from samba 3.0.X DC to samba4 DC for
students, and things are working great
The move was predominantly driven by switching from Windows XP to
Windows 7 desktop platform (but also by a

smbclient -k works; mount -t cifs does not
I am confused (nothing new there ...). I have 2 Ubuntu 9.10 Samba
servers. I am trying to mount a share from the other (i.e., "workhorse"
is trying to mount a share on "dual-booter"). If I specify a smbmount
command with a -k option, I can mount the share:

Default principal: turgon at DACRIB.LOCAL

time server = yes
I want my XP clients to update their clocks from my samba server. I
have time server = yes in smb.conf, and running ntpd on the server, but
my clients aren't updating their clocks. I tried running the command
manually logged in as a domain user:
net time /setsntp:10.8.2.3
but it just says "System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied".
Any ideas?

4.4 upgrade problems
OK ... there has been an awful lot of attributing problems to the 4.4
upgrade that are not really upgrade problems.
The best I can tell there is really only one major problem:
1. You need to install python-sqlite before sqlite (or at nearly the
same time).
To accomplish this you can do this:
yum update python-sqlite sqlite
Then after that, a normal yum update works fine.
There are 2 other

samba4+bind on centos
Hi all
I've given up on the idea that I can make a script to import our
<domain>-zone into samba internal dns with samba-tool as it gets really
messy with subdomains. Instead I'm now trying to get samba4 to let bind
handle the <domain>-zone as well als dynamic updates and such.
The problem is that once I've started named and samba4 after
provisioning, I try to test

Samba unable to bind to LDAP server
I've spent the last several days trying to get Samba to bind to our
OpenDirectory server for user authentication with no success.
Whenever I try start Samba, it complains that the connection to the
LDAP server failed with invalid credentials. I am authenticating
other services against the LDAP server through NSS, so I am a bit at a
loss as to why Samba won't run. I'm also a bit at a

I was intending on trying out gjournal on a new disk i've added in my

I created the directories as per Pawel's original post
