Re: Attaching DVD-writer
I’ve tried that post .. but either I get a new scsi passthrough controller in device manager, but no dvd or the boot in windows hangs
Either that method won’t work anymore or my config is bad .. im not really sure what to put in controller, target, bus and unit ..

SAS HBA address and SCSI passthrough

I have a machine with 6 SATA slots and two SAS controllers, one onboard
HBA and one RAID controller in a PCIe slot. The problem is that the

SCSI addresses of the devices change. One time lsscsi prints (empty
lines and ellipsis added for clarity):

OT: missing /dev paths
Looking for help kind of in a hurry. I've been searching google but not
finding any options.
Is there any way to fix missing /dev paths to luns without rebooting?
For example, see the output from lsscsi below. The only way I know to
fix this is with a reboot, but I REALLY Need to avoid that if possible.
Thanks
James

Re: Attaching DVD-writer
...that method won’t work anymore or my config is bad .. im not really sure what to put in controller, target, bus and unit ..
So there are two addresses for the <hostdev>.
The one under <source> should be set to the address of the CDROM drive
on the host. It can be obtained e.g. using lsscsi:
# lsscsi
[2:0:1:0] disk ATA ST3500418AS CC38 /dev/sda
[3:0:0:0] cd/dvd HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH24NSB0 LN00 /dev/sr0
(so 'scsi_host3'(adapter) and bus='0' target='0' unit='0')
The second address <address type='drive> is the address on th...

HBA port
Hi,
I have a host which is connected to SAN via single Fibre channel HBA
(qlogic). I have several LUNS assigned to this (sdc, sdd). I added
another single port HBA to this host. I can now see two world wide
names.
Now the confusion is which world wide name does sdc and sdd is/was using.
scsi_id -g -u -s /block/sdc only gives wwid but I need the wwn for sdc and sdd.
Thanks
Paras.

getting a CentOS6 VM on VMware ESXi platform to recognize a new disk device
Hello all,
Is there a way to recognize a hot-plugged disk (i.e., to get the system to
recognize it and build the appropriate /dev/sd* device for the new device)
without a reboot?
Thanks.
Boris.

getting a CentOS6 VM on VMware ESXi platform to recognize a new disk device
...I installed sg3_utils and ran
#scsi-rescan
but that seemed to have done nothing for some reason.
Cheers,

Mounting LUNs from a SAN array - LUN mappings to devices in /dev/ - are they static?
...orming a migration to Centos 5.9 x86_64 in some time and am
gathering needed info now :)
I am trying to find the place in the OS where there is the information
about LUN mappings to /dev/ devices.
For example on array level I have an exported LUN with number 8. I see it
on one of the servers with lsscsi as:
# lsscsi | grep '7\:0\:0\:8'
[7:0:0:8] disk SUN LCSM100_F 0735 /dev/sdj
As I said I need to perform migration of the OS to Centos 5.9 x86_64 and am
curious where from does the mapping
scsi device 7:0:0:8 <-> /dev/sdj
come?
I have some complex logical volum...

Uhh... multipath... Not my strong suit... I'm taking an example from a
bz that you won't be able to read because it's marked private.
Once you have your vHBA and scsi_hostM for that vHBA on the host you can
use 'lsscsi' (you may have to yum/dnf install it - it's a very useful
tool)...
# lsscsi

getting a CentOS6 VM on VMware ESXi platform to recognize a new disk device
Hi Boris,
Just rescan the scsi host.
#scsi-rescan #if you have sg3_utils package
#lsscsi
Or
