LVM + XFS + external log + snapshots
Hi all, So I have an XFS file system within LVM which has an external log. My mount option in FSTAB is; /dev/vg_spock_data/lv_data /data xfs logdev=/dev/sdc1,nobarrier,logbufs=8,noatime,nodiratime 1 1 All is well no issues and very fast. Now I'd like to snapshot this bad boy and then run rsnapshot to create a few days backup. A snapshot volume is created w/o issue; lvcreate -L250G -s

Mount options for NFS
We're experiencing problems with some legacy software when it comes to NFS access. Even though files are visible in a terminal and can be accessed with standard shell tools and vi, this software typically complains that the files are empty or not syntactically correct. The NFS filesystems in question are 8TB+ XFS filesystems mounted with

Show SQL request without issuing it
Hi all, I saw that some object.save is causing the SQL request to crash, but I don''t see the SQL request in the logs (only ruby code that''s showing an error during the .save method). Is there any way to show the SQL request before it''s issued to the database ? -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received

How to determine why a server is not responding
Hi to all! We're using CentOS 5.5 64bits for our Plesk 11. This week we had the following problem 3 times... Suddenly, the server stops responding in all services (SSH, Apache, Postfix, ...) but ping works! After wait a few minutes (or 2 hours some times) the server continues unresponsive until we reboot. After reboot we search on /var/log/messages but cannot find useful information...

logger in my classes
Hi, I wrote a class which is not an AR extension, nor a controller. I''d like to use logger.* methods there too. My class is in lib/ dir. I include it in environment.rb with the line require ''lib/localization'' just after the line require File.join(File.dirname(__FILE__), ''boot'') I tried many ways to reuse the logger class. The cleaner way seemed to

3Ware 9650SE and XFS problems under Centos 5.3
Hello all, Came across my first real "problem" in all the years I've been using Linux today and I'm stumped for an answer. I've recently built a back-up server on top of Centos 5.3 using a 3Ware 9650SE 4 port SATA card and 4 x 1.5TB drives in a RAID 5 array. I went for the 3Ware card as it has driver support already so any kernel updates won't require me to rebuild the

Samba freezes server when writing 50MB MS Word document (sometimes)
Hi list for a couple of days we have the problem that our samba pdc server (ubuntu 8.04 LTS [kernel 2.6.24-24] with 3.0.28a samba package) freezes sometimes when someone saves a specific word document (about 50MB) from MS Word. It's not always the same person. Saving the document - as nearly any huge MS Office document - takes some time, about one minute (guessed). First the server gets

suspend to ram does not work with Geforce 310M (NVA8)
Hello. Minimal testcase for my problem: No X running, just a TTY. Use of the nouveau kernel module as of today (or any older) with an up to date vanilla kernel. Hardware: DELL Vostro 3500 with Geforce 310M. To suspend to ram I use this script, as suggested in Documentation/power/s2ram.txt: #!/bin/sh sync echo 1 > /sys/power/pm_trace echo mem > /sys/power/state When I try to suspend to

[PATCH 1/2] generator: Simplify the handling of string parameters.
Previously we had lots of types like String, Device, StringList, DeviceList, etc. where Device was just a String with magical properties (but only inside the daemon), and DeviceList was just a list of Device strings. Replace these with some simple top-level types: String StringList and move the magic into a subtype. The change is mechanical, for example: old
