...G.729 and we'd like to
consider SPEEX at sometime in the future. That's
why I asked you about the quality comparison. Of
course, G.729's decoded samples are 16 bits wide
so that's another quality consideration.

Btw, 6 bytes/frame at 50 frames/second seems to
be 2.4kbps so I'm guessing that the lower rate
you mentioned is because of some overhead for VAD in your 6 bytes.

Hello Jean-Marc:
How many bits do you have in a frame please and what is your frame
rate? For example, G.729 (ACELP) has 12 bits/frame including VAD and
the frame rate is 100/second ... I'm looking for the comparable
figures for SPEEX.
Thank you.

Speex is a not business, nor is Jean-Marc selling a product. The
Xiph.Org Foundation, of which Jean-Marc is a member with his Speex

Windows app demonstrating speex playback?
I'm developing a small linux/speex-based audio streaming (VoIP-like) application, and am looking for a binary windows app that can play speex content (at least from a file, preferably from an IP data stream) out through the windows sound system. This would be very helpful as a test tool. Any recommendations? I'd prefer a binary as I don't have development environment available for

Hi people
Just wondered what your thoughts are on Microsoft's RTAudio codec that they use in their Unified Communications stuff:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=5D79B584-79C9-42A8-90C4-4AB3F03D19C4&displaylang=en
They let people license it to use in their own products. I couldn't find any sample clips of RTAudio encoded speech. Apart from being $35000 less

Speex for TI MSP430 microcontroller - estimating CPU speed requirements?
Interested in building a speex codec (basically audio <-> speex <-> data
stream) using TI's small MSP430 microcontroller. Is there any way to
estimate feasibility based on CPU requirements? Example - speex is happily
encoding on an old Pentium-1 processor (166 MHz) using about half the CPU
(as reported under Linux); the TI microcontrollers are much slower yet
(8-16-25 MHz) and

Buffer size/rate woes
Hi All, I am trying to get speex working on the Mac and am running
into issues. I got the examples working, but am now trying to make
speex, which expects 8000 Hz and 160 samples per buffer (320 bytes
per buffer), work with the Mac's built-in audio recording, which uses
either 11025, 22050, or 44100 Hz and 1024 samples per buffer (2048
bytes per buffer).
I just need to know if
