BTRFS, getting darn slower everyday
Hi, I have 4 machines, all converted to BTRFS about 6 months ago, now all running Ubuntu Quantal with kernel 3.5.0-17 The matter is that all these machines are now getting slower and slower everyday, every disk access causing the disk to be 100% busy for long periods, to the point that I''m now seriously considering migrating everything back to ext4... From the start BTRFS was "not

[LMDE] Warcraft tft fps drop
...9;m new here but i've used wine a lot, right now i'm having a problem and i don't know how to fix it, so i come here for your help. I've installed War3 TFT to play DotA but I have an amazing drop of fps when I play. Usually i have 90 fps, but now it drops to 25 fps (since installed LMDE with gnome3). The thing is that i've added the key for opengl configuration, but the problem is my gui, i'm using gnome3, the default one that comes with lmde, before i had gnome3 but classis with no effects, but i don't want it. So i need a solution to have more fps with the same gui...

/boot as a btrfs subvolume
As of the latest updates to anaconda and grub2 for Fedora 18, it is now possible to install with /boot as a btrfs subvolume. The way that grub2 is handling this is the "reach down" to the files it needs as if the subvolume was a directory. Is this OK? At this point I am not worried about snapshots or any other complexities. If the subvolume name is known. should grub2 be able to

Problems with ImgBurn, err:aspi:ASPI_GetNumControllers
I don't know exactly when, but something about my Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) installation has changed that seems to have broken Wine when it comes to detecting ASPI devices, because I get the following error. Code: err:aspi:ASPI_GetNumControllers Could not open HKLM\L"HARDWARE\\DEVICEMAP\\Scsi" I tried searching the forums with the Forums -> Search for inf...

DVD Rebuilder Pro does not start in Wine 1.4
...g to start DVD-rebuilder Pro 1.282, I just get a small pop up window saying "Invalid picture" - then nothing. It was running fine in Wine 1.3.16 and 1.2. I tried the free version of DVD-rebuilder 0.98, and this one is able to start up, and appears to be running. I'm using Linux Mint LMDE. Has anyone else experienced this problem with the PRO version after installing Wine 1.4?

What happened to OSS support?
I had wine working beautifully with OSS4 under LMDE, and I just switched to fedora which uses WINE 1.3.33 (a much more current version than what's in debian repos) and there's no OSS support?! Every time I try to force OSS it says "no driver" under audio. I don't want pulseaudio or ALSA on my system and spotify was working bea...

d3d_caps error
Hello all, I just installed Linux Mint Debian Edition, which I have used in the past with Wine, and I'm trying to get Riven to run (which, again, I've used with Wine on this OS before). Wine isn't in the LMDE repository anymore for some reason, so I had to compile it myself (v. 1.2.3). I was able to install the game without a hitch, but when I try to run the EXE I get: Code: fixme:d3d_caps:select_card_intel_mesa Card selection not handled for Mesa Intel driver fixme:d3d_caps:init_driver_info Unhandled...

Configuring printers in CentOS 5
Could someone please explain to me how to best configure printers in CentOS 5? I've been trying to configure a new printer, which is served by a Mac Mini: If I open a web browser at localhost:631, or "system-configure-printers" and I configure the new printer as an IPP printer, it winds up in a list of "Remote printers", and once it winds up there I can't seem to

Changing the appearance of the login box
I'm the founder and lead developer of the lightweight Linux distro Swift Linux. I'm currently in the process of switching from the old antiX Linux base to the new Linux Mint Debian Edition base. The new Swift Linux will be using LightDM instead of SLiM. I've found that replacing LMDE's default GDM display manager with SLiM disables many functions (like audio). Restoring these functions means messing around with groups and permissions. Like GDM, LightDM enables these functions. However, LightDM is substantially lighter than GDM. Given that Swift Linux needs to fit on a C...

Compiling from source - where is winecfg?
Hey all, I've just switched distro to Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) from LM9 Isadora. Some of you may be aware that the Wine Debian packages are extremely old (the repo the main page directs me to doesn't go above 1.1.4.2), so I compiled 1.3.4 from source, without installing. That went fine, insofar as I tested with a previously-installed app and it ran, but...

Compiling wine on 64 bit Linux Mint Debian Edition
...nd instructions, but none seem to apply to my distro. I'm kind of nooby with linux but not incompetent. The error I get is, predictably: error: Cannot build a 32-bit program, you need to install 32-bit development libraries. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Again, running 64 bit LMDE. Thanks in advance

NT4-Style Auth & Roaming Profiles Only?
...sions (hopefully) have now been dealt with, so as long as you > are running 4.2.12, 4.3.9 or 4.4.3 at least, you should be okay. > > Rowland Sorry Rowland, but the break happened before the badlock patches when Debian jumped from 4.1.x to 4.3.x, skipping 4.2.x altogether. I have a Mint LMDE system at 4.2 that can still talk to the domain, so that's all good. Win7 systems can log in, so the ldap auth is still working, but cannot access shares. Because the domain was already not working, I never had the opportunity to see what effect the badlock patches might have had. And so...
