thereafter. This essentially fills their logs and makes them unhappy
as you might imagine. These messages don't appear after an initial
mount and before a mainframe halt/load -- only after that point.
How do we prevent this behavior from our mount.cifs?

like the same problem).
I'm using authorized_keys and identity.pub files to do it automagically,

I'm seeing this :

A different Win98 password problem
...box |--eth1--192.168.1.1----192.168.1.2---win98
+-------------------+
I have
interfaces = 192.168.1.1/24 in smb.conf
I tried the registry patch.
I then switched to encrypted samba passwords on the linux box.
The win98 machine dual boots linux, and I can get smbclient connections to
the linuxbox then. I have to use the smbpasswd password, not the regular
one, suggesting that encrypted passwords are working ok on the linuxbox.
I can even mount the linuxbox as a network drive from the NT cluster
downstairs.
The win98 username matches that on the linuxbox.
When I try mapping network dri...

Stumped at "Network Neighbourhood", Samba server is visible, but it's path can't be found ...
Hi all,
I can see the RH7.3 linux box I've configured with the latest
Redhat RPM samba package in the Windows 2000 network
neighbourhood, but when I double click the W2000 computer
icon I get the message
"\\Linuxbox is not accessible,
The network path was not found."
The network is a small switched lan, sadly with only one unix
box (RH7.3) and a mixture of Windows2000 and 98 machines. The
domain name is that of our service provider "bellnet.ca", and
the recently introduced Linux box is config...

LinuxBox can't appear in Net neighbourhood.
I have samba 2.0.5 run on my RH6.1
In windoz, when I use "find computer",I can find it without any difficulty!
Also I can access it using this method!
But I can't see it in network neighbourhood!
I've tried "net view /workgroup=MY_LINUXBOX_DOMAIN",still can't see.
Why?(In my linuxbox,the dns resolve doesn't work.does that matter?)
The following is my global section
[global]
workgroup = SOME_DOMAIN
netbios name = MY_NAME
public = yes
server string = COMMENT
hosts allow = OUR_SUBNET

Hi all,
I try to explain my strange Samba problem: I've done a linuxbox with
Mandrake 8.2 distro; installed Samba 2.2 packages and two printers attached
via parallel port: one works with the motherboard built-in parallel port,
the other is connected via a pci parallel port card. Both works fine on
win2000 clients (and on the linuxbox, too :); on windows 98 clients, bot...

I can get the list of shares on every single Linux or Win9X machines in

Here is what I tried:

or
[user1@linuxbox user1]$ smbclient -L WIN2KHOST

The result is

I can mount windows 2000 shared folders with command bellow
mount -t smbfs -o username=administrador,password=123 //winbox/pub
/mnt/win2k
but what I want to do is to access files that I have in the linux
machine from windows.
I'd do that using "net use K: \\linuxbox\first" but it doesn't work
command nbtstat -A 192.168.0.1 returns host not found but ping winbox
pings 192.168.0.1 ok
the command nbtstat -A 192.168.0.30 returns the shared resources on the
Win XP machine ok and viceversa
bellow it is my smb.conf. I've made it as simple as possible

Problem with configurable Linux as a PDC with Windows 2000 clients
...in master = yes
os level = 32
......
Did a testparm and everything resulted ok.
Created Unix user accounts for the 2 machines with an instruction like the following...
useradd -c 'some description' -M -s /bin/false -n machineName$
Next, I tried to add server to the domain:
smbpasswd -a -m LINUXBOX
followed by:
smbpasswd -j MYDOMAIN
If I am successful, I would get:
Joining Domain as PDC
Joined domain MYDOMAIN.
However, I get an error message that goes:
modify_trust_password: Machine LINUXBOX is one of our addresses. Cannot add to ourselves.
