pxelinux.0 hangs after it is downloaded.
Hello Everyone, In short, I have the following questions: Is there a known problem with PXE booting and LinuxBIOS? Will pxelinux.0 not work with a serial console? Is there a way to convert pxelinux.0 into an ELF file? The Long Version: I am working on installing Rocks Cluter distribution on a LinuxNetworx cluster. The hardware was donated to my college, and the CS department is trying to...

"pre-OS"
Ok, syslinux is what it is, and I love the way it just works. I looked up linuxBios and found what I was looking for. A project in 2000 called "LOBOS (Linux OS Boots Linux OS): Booting a Kernel in 32-bit Mode? It looks like this would do what I need, but I can't find any working code. I like the Idea of booting a simple fail safe system and restarting a production...

Re: syslinux] syslinux vs grub
...harddisk and floppydisk *Syslinux/Memdisk compressible (usable for boot floppy) by UPX for example. Linux kernel can be compressed by UPX, FreeDOS kernel can, and maybe Syslinux also. When seeing the compression ratio in the Syslinux .zip archive there's a nice 2:1 result. *Compatibility with LinuxBIOS would be great (www.linuxbios.org). Keep up with the excellent work, seeing the Linux distributors use your work (and thus millions of people using your bootloader) is quite an achievement! content of initramfs CPIO archive
Hi, I am compiling a tiny linux kernel 2.6.10 to be used together with linuxbios. The boot phase will go as follows: linuxbios->tiny linux kernel->initramfs The initramfs shall use dhcp to get it's address and then tftp a full featured kernel. This kernel must be started through kexec. I use a tweaked networkdriver in the kernel and cannot use a normal PXE boot. W...

scope creep "serial console usb"
Can extlinux / syslinux use a usb port for the console? Hi all, I just picked up a energy efficient server with built in 3 hour ups, toshiba Laptop. I've been using serial consoles for monitoring and controlling the boot process, but this laptop has only usb ports. Can Extlinux use ttyUSB0 for the console? I love the extlinux for booting usb devices. Thank you for the hard work,

ElTorito from Floppy (was: Re: Can I use...)
...nice to boot cdroms. There's no way to boot ISOs (yet?). A Linux floppy with kernel+initrd should be able to mount an ISO or ZISOFS file (Knoppix does this for example) To my knowledge, no one has extracted SBM's eltorito stack yet. It would have been usefull as payload for a project like LinuxBIOS for example, especially now that they have VGA BIOS working properly. Welcome to an opensource BIOS :) To promote a FreeDOS component a bit more: the SYS program, also maintained by that same member, is able to transfer system files for all major DOS, and also create a GPL bootsector for it (exce...

emu86 in klibc
...t now video ROMs would be the only user of this but there are SCSI disk controllers with boot ROM too that no one is developing for. ------------------------------------------------------- On Mon, 07 Feb 2005 09:34:53 -0700, Li-Ta Lo <ollie@lanl.gov> wrote: The source code is available from LinuxBIOS CVS cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/freebios the directory for the emulator are freebios2/src/devices/emulator/x86emu and freebios2/src/include/x86emu The emulator is slightly larger than 32KB. Netboot and PXELINUX
Hi all, I have just been informed that Netboot (http://netboot.sourceforge.net/) can be used to produce PXE boot ROMs. I wonder if anyone has tried running this combination with PXELINUX? This is obviously a really big deal... :) -hpa

Using PXE to Boot CD Images?
Is it possible to chain isolinux and memdisk over pxelinux? If it's possible, I'd like to boot a CD Image over the network. I've been using pxelinux to boot ltsp for years, and recently upgraded to take advantage of memdisk for booting a DOS hd-image. Ideally I'd be able to boot a CD-Image. Thoughts? -- <:3)~ Michael T. PXE Hanging
Hi, I have been trying to boot a PC based terminal using your PXELINUX project and I am having a problem. The Terminal (a Netier NetXpress XL2000) has a m-systems Disk-On-Chip 2000 flash memory module which is normally used to boot a cut-down version of WinNT. I work in a repair department where we often have to open up these terminals and temporarily install a hard-drive to reflash the

Asterisk 1.0.9 long term stability <--thread hijack, why not reboot?
Disclaimer: Not a troll I'm curious as to this obsession with uptime is. All of the posts of this type are along the lines of "After X days, Y thing does not work but if I reload or reboot, it's OK" - so why not cron a reboot? Is it considered bad form or something like that? I reboot every night whether it is needed or not, not afraid to admit it, and everything works fine for

Xen & Transmeta (from xen-users)
All- With suggestions from Ian and previous posts on this list, I''ve been investigating why Xen causes a Transmeta-based system to reboot immediately.. I''ve added instrumentation to xen/arch/x86/boot/x86_32.S (a collection of ''.asciz "foo"'' statements) hoping to locate a point of failure.. and it dies sometime before this code is run.. At what point

Xen Roadmap proposal
Folks, Please find attached a proposal for the Xen development roadmap for the next 18 months or so. The roadmap gives a "state of the nation" summary and provides suggestions as to priorities going forward. I''ve tried to be inclusive and collect together many of the various features that folks have asked for, along with some implementation ideas to guide developers. The
